Cloris Leachman said it wasn't about money or the extra fame, it was about her family. She said doing a weekly series was much easier than doing a movie.

She could always get home at a reasonable hour and didn't have to worry about working or changing scripts like she has in movies. She trusted her writers to put together strong scripts.

In the article, she also predicted that 'Phyllis' would be a HUGE hit, even before the first episode aired.

Well, it was...for about a year. Then like most Networks, they felt the need to "change" the format.
