From 1988 through 1997, Barr portrayed one of the best characters in the history of television — a tough, smart, bossy, sharp-tongued working-class matriarch who was also a sort of alternate-universe version of her creator. Roseanne was wildly popular, hugely influential, and critically acclaimed, a sitcom about a functional and loving family that prevailed through hard times and never slipped into saccharine.

I second that motion. Roseanne Conner was and always will be one of the greatest memorable characters in Television history. She was loud, honest, always spoke her mind, she was a hard-working wife and mother which made her very believable and very relatable to a lot of televison audiences. :D

Yes she was one of the first tv moms that actually seemed real. I mean I know alot of mothers who love their children but do yell at them. Just like Roseanne. Plus the fact that she actually argues with her husband but still loves him.

I definitely put her up there among the greats like Archie Bunker, Ralph Kramden, and Lucille Ball. Her character was revolutionary. There wasn't a character like her before, and I doubt there will be one after. She didn't rely on catch phrases or anything like that, she just played the character of the liberated, blue collar, take no b.s. working mom, to perfection. Definitely one of the greats in my opinion.
