Did CBS think that it would be a response from the NAACP since it was the only black show on TV showing blacks in a good financial situation?
OR
CBS felt that cancelling Good times and the Jeffersons at the same time would generate too many letters?
The Jeffersons finished the 77 season at #56 and the 78 season at #49 and it was still added to the fall schedule?-lol That's probably why CBS moved the show to a different night instead of cancelling because they didn't want any kind of problems from the public and angry letters.

NAACP? Why would they care about The Jefferson's? Plus Diff'rent Strokes was still on.

Well it may have been that CBS didn't want to cancel both of those shows at the same time. So we can say that Good Times being sh**TY saved the Jeffersons LOL

At the time GT just sucked, it was time to end that show. The writers were horrible

Surprisingly it did better than the Jeffersons after the 1977-78 season
Good Times #53
Jeffersons #56

But the ratings still stayed up. I think that CBS just wanted to get rid of the show so they started to move it around. That's what they always do.

They stayed up after the move. Before that the show was moved all around every month and people had a hard time finding it.
Once they moved to Sundays, the Jeffersons aired at 9:30pm for 3 straight years
