View Full Version : Face appears in television?

I've been searching for one single episode for years now. It involved a man going to stay at a hotel or motel or some sort of lodgings, and a face appeared on the television. It scared me so much that I couldn't sleep in the same room with a television set. It had to be in the early 90s. I've tried very hard to find it. Another person I talked to also felt like it was Unsolved Mysteries that aired the episode. However there's no evidence of this episode anywhere. That leads me to believe that it may in fact not be Unsolved Mysteries but if it's not, I have no idea what it could be.

Another person I discussed this with felt that the face helped the person solve a murder but he also admitted that he might be blending memories together.

This episode really messed me up. It took years to get over that fear.

I just watched all of Nevada Haunting. That wasn't it. This face literally appeared on the tv and talked to this guy in the room. It was definitely a hotel/motel/apartment. Good episode though.

Whatever it is sounds creepy. The only one I've heard like this is where an author of some sort was supposedly talked to telepathically by a guy who was murdered outside a bar and wanted him to help solve his murder. I forget their names though.

I'm downloading all of the ghosts box set right now but I'm really starting to feel like it's not UM but something different all together. I wish there was a way to look at old tv schedules in my area and see. The thing is I feel like Rescue 911 came on right after it and I don't think they ever did anything like this so I have no idea. The other guy mentioned a show called Sightings as an option.

I can see it so clearly though. The guy turned the tv off after something strange happened on it. Then while he's asleep this face materializes in the tv and wakes him up. I can see the room perfectly in my mind, I know where the bed is, the tv, the window, the door.

I've tried tons of different google searches trying to find any mention at all of it. The only progress I've made is finding someone else on reddit who saw it and had the same horrified experience I had and couldn't sleep with a tv in the room just like me.

We need closure!

Definitely a UM episode, and I know it's been discussed here (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=260168) (back when I was just a lurker, haha). IIRC the face looked very much like David Crosby but I think someone here speculated it was actually William Conrad. I think the photo had been discredited because (again, going off of memory) it was possible to see the interlacing despite the claim that the TV was off.

Edit: After re-reading the original post, I realize that's probably not it, since you say the TV was talking to him. Hmm. I don't remember anything quite like that.

I remember seeing what I think was a one off special around 1992-1993. The show wasn't Unsolved Mysteries but featured maybe 5 or 6 different Ghost Stories complete with very tacky re-enactments. One of the stories showed a Face materialising in a TV set - The eyes appeared first. One of the other stories involved a couple who's behaviour became erratic whilst living in a haunted house. I vaguely remember one of the other stories involved a Guy being confronted by a Man's Ghost under the house - It might have been his abusive Father who'd died? I almost went through the roof when they showed it!

2xj: Nope that wasn't it either. If you guys who are big fans who have seen all this stuff don't remember it, I think it has to be some other show and in that case I have no idea where to start looking. That other guy and myself both thinking it was Unsolved Mysteries makes me think it must have been on the same channel around the same time. So ghost specials or series in the early 90s... maybe on NBC?

Corkys-Place: Yeah that sounds like it has to be it. Now I just need to find out what it could have been. 92-93 was my best guess for this too.

Im almost certain that the show you are talking about is called "Haunted Lives: True Ghost Stories" that aired three episodes from 1991-1995. The case I think you may be referring to is 'The Legend of Kate Morgan' where attorney Alan May was at a hotel and I think he saw Kate's face on the TV screen. Theres a page for it on wikipedia that has more info.

I hope it's it. I'm watching the whole thing now (I love the internet) to see. I feel like this is it judging by comments about the tv. I'll be back after I finish this segment.

THIS IS IT! Thank you so much! You have no idea what this means to me! It still kind of freaks me out.

It's amazing to watch now. It still kind of freaks me out. It doesn't scare me like it did when I was a kid though. This is great closure.

I've been looking for this for years. Thank you all so much for the help.

I am glad you figured it out. Otherwise, I was going to guess the General Wayne Inn segment. A head appears in the kitchen in that one.

That was probably the one episode that sent me flying out of the room as a kid. Not because seeing an apparition itself was scary, but the actor they used for the face/head was creepy as hell (I'm sure he appreciates that)

Glad OP found what he was looking for. I kind of feel like watching it now just to see what all the fuss is about. :)

It's not super frightening now but imagine you were 6 years old when it aired and your most trusted friend the tv had a ghost come out of it. I didn't understand that it was a good ghost when I was a kid because I guess as a child you assume they are all bad because it's scary to think about. I probably ran out of the room when I saw it and never even knew the ending.

The odd thing is that I wasn't a very fearful kid. This was my one big thing that really scared me. When I started to watch it yesterday I got chills and a little nervous before the face came on the tv. Once I saw it I was ok though. It's not particularly frightening at all. It's cool that I had the room laid out so accurately in my head and I had thought the guy had a mustache. It shows how vivid and horrible it must have been for me at the time that it burned into my brain like that.

Glad I found this forum. I never considered there would be a huge fanbase for these shows. I watched every mystery/alien/ghost special I could when I was a kid but no one I knew was into them like me.

When I was a kid, I watched "The Lost Boys" and always wanted to watch it again as an adult but didn't exactly know where to look. So in 2003 I happened to buy the movie "Fright Night" and I was relieved to know I found the movie...even though I remembered in differently.

Then in 2009 I stumbled upon The Lost Boys accidentally [it happened to be on TV at a friend's house]. Needless to say I was very happy to find it after incorrectly identifying it as Fright Night before and after about 20 years since watching it as a kid.

I had a similar experience with a Disney tv movie called Fluppy Dogs. I looked for years to try and figure out what it was. All I could remember is a group of colorful dogs used a key to travel through doors into alternate dimensions. I ended up having to wait for the internet to get to a point where it was easier to find things. Then once I found out the name I had to wait till someone with a vhs recorded from tv uploaded it to youtube. The whole movie is up there now and it's still an amazing movie to this day. Way ahead of it's time.

Totally remembered this show too, and had about 95% of it on videotape way in the day (complete with authentic 80's commercials :D).

Yeah I guess it horrified every kid that saw it hahaha. Everyone I've talked to had a traumatic experience because of that face.

Yeah for me watching any of my old tapes, the commercials are usually my favorite part.
