You can tell they were reaching for storylines because I don't recall no Bunker going to a Laudromat before season 9

^ There was an episode where Edith was at the laundromat & she was approached by a man to do a detergent commercial. I'm not sure what season it was but it was pretty funny.

Plenty of people I know don't have washing machines or dryers. Plus, think about it...where would they have been? Most people have them in their basement, and we saw the basement in the episode where Archie got locked in there. No washer/dryer. There's no place else it could have been, because we'd seen all the rest of the house and we never saw a washer or dryer.

I guess I don't see it as that unusual.

But laundromats are not as bad as they were 15 years ago when there was no phones to access the web or no kindles to read books. In 1997 all you was able to do was bring a book with you or watch the TV that was already in there lol

I've been lucky; I've always lived in a house with a washer. Many of my friends haven't been as lucky and they've told me how they hate to visit the laundromat. Waiting, sometimes odd people being around, the expense...but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! lol

The laundromat that I used to go to didn't even have a TV.

The Bunkers did have a washing machine, but it probably broke down. There was an earlier episode where the machine broke down and Archie took the clothes to the laundry, overloaded the machine and broke it. The owner came by the house wanting money. Both Archie and the laundry man thought they were right, so they had a trial with Edith as judge. The episode was actually called "Edith the Judge". Most likely in the episode you're talking about, the machine broke down again, probably because Archie was too cheap to buy a new one.

I've known people who have a washer and dryer in their house and complain about doing laundry. Hey, how would you like to lug it to a laundromat and sit around there for an hour? You have the machines conveniently in your house. You throw it in there, the machines do all the work, you don't have to stand guard over it and you can go off and do whatever you feel like.
