I think I could easier pick favorite funny TV shows than individual characters. For some shows, it's not just one character who's really funny- it's their interactions with others. (Especially for relationship-built comedies, as many sitcoms are of course.) And in that case, it's not just Ed Norton going around saying funny things. It's his interaction with Ralph Kramden on "The Honeymooners". And Ralph and Alice. And Ed and Trixie. And Trixie and Alice. And all 4 characters together really.
So I may just name a few shows and a few favorite characters from the show.
Well, I've already said The Honeymooners and that is definitely a favorite. Just to note though, I'm going in any particular order, though I may go more or less chronologically.

I Love Lucy- Lucy and Ricky, Fred and Ethel, all 4 characters together really

I would vote for Jack Tripper if I could but the poll is already closed. NO ONE comes even close to Jack Tripper with the possible exception of George Jefferson and even he's a couple levels below Jack Tripper!
