It wasn't that the theme to Phyllis was so bad, or good for that matter. It's just that there were countless television themes that were 10 times worse. So no, the theme to Phyllis is by no means the worse theme ever.

Old thread, but it's one of my favorite themes ever. I suppose if you think the singing is bad I can understand why you would hate it, especially the part before "it sure isn't you."

Worst theme song to a sitcom I ever heard

Its like a parody of "Hello Dolly" and "Mame" with a sad twist at the end, I thought it was intentionally bad to make you laugh at her pomposity.

Maybe season 2 Rhoda;s theme but that's it

I agree, the season 2 theme to "Rhoda" is absolutely unbearable. Probably why it was changed to instrumental in the third season.

I loved it! In the end a seagull was supposed to grab Phyllis’ hat when she threw it into the air, but they changed it, sadly.

Exactly. The theme song was farce.

It’s FARCE! I love the them! It’s NOT meant to be taken seriously. It’s actually a cut down the Phyllis character. Lol!

Phyllis clearly gives a look showing she's indignant, so it's clear it's a put-down. Maybe a unique approach (up to that time in TV history).
