Warning: Spoilers!
Original Air Date: Nov 7, 1980
In this episode, Benson finds himself not feeling very well. He has a fever, he’s getting the chills, he has no energy and no one seems to know what is wrong. He even has the doctor (who makes a house call to the mansion) stumped. He is supposed to be taking inventory in the kitchen and then in the living room, but all he wants to do is lie down. Eventually he ends up fainting on the kitchen floor, right in front of Kraus. :faint:
While admitted to the hospital, Benson must undergo tests to find out what the problem is. While there he deals with an obnoxious, sharp-tongued nurse as well as a sweet and beautiful nurse who plans to give Benson an alcohol rub (much to his liking). The gang from the mansion all come to visit, and leave him with none of the blueberry tarts that Kraus made to cheer him up. (Keep your eye on Pete as he is about to leave – I think he pockets about three or four of them!) :p
When Katie sneaks up to visit Benson (she is too young to be allowed to visit), he suddenly has a hard time breathing and tells her to get the doctor right away. Now the doctor has made the connection: Benson has a pet allergy, specifically cats, and Katie’s new kitten Napoleon is the cause of Benson’s attacks. Knowing how much the kitten means to Katie, Benson leaves the choice to her as to which of them gets to stay. (I think we know the answer to that!) :D
This is a good episode, and I believe it is meant to display the sweet and caring bond between Benson and Katie. :)
Some favorite quotes:
Clayton: (Wearing a protective mask) What Benson has is psychosomatic, but the rest of this place is crawling with millions of unidentified germs.
Benson: Then take off your mask and identify yourself.
Kraus: Well, look who’s back from the grave.
Benson: Sorry to disappoint you, Kraus.
Kraus: I wasn’t disappointed. I knew you were faking.
Benson: There’s a message you don’t get from Hallmark.
Kraus: (after Benson aggravates her) Fine, I’ll give them to some other patient.
Benson: Come back here.
Kraus: I’ll take my tarts to the room across the hall.
Benson: If you don’t bring your tarts back over here, you’ll be in the room across the hall.
Katie: I can’t make that kind of decision. I’m only 10 years old.
Benson: I wish I could help.
Katie: (after hesitating) I’m gonna miss you, Benson.
Clayton: Marcy, believe me, it’s as unpleasant for me as it is for you. But when a horse breaks its leg, you shoot it.
Marcy: I don’t know anything about horses, but I know a jackass when I see one.
Benson: (in the bathroom changing) This gown ain’t got no back in it.
Mean Nurse: It doesn’t matter, I’ve seen everything.
Benson: When?
Katie: I’ll bet I can trade Napoleon to Sally Buell for her pet alligator. Is that ok?
Benson: Well, as long as I don’t have to pet him.
Katie: The only problem is, where would I keep him?
Benson: How about Kraus’ bathtub?
