Hello everyone, I'm 'back from hiatus' as the TV types say with some big news concerning "I Love Lucy" in Canada.
For the past couple of years, "I Love Lucy" has been exclusively found on the channel formerly called TAC (The Accessible Channel) which has been renamed as AMI (Accessible Media Inc.). It is a channel which is focussed on providing programs for those with visual or hearing impairments, which means that each show uses described video where a voiceover describes all the action that is taking place on the screen. AMI also shows a few other classics like "All In The Family", "Perry Mason", and "The Rockford Files" that anyone can enjoy, but Lucy is usually the only thing I'll watch and up to now, AMI was the only place that fans in Canada can watch it.
That all changes during the upcoming Canada Day holiday weekend. At that time, Comedy Gold (formerly TV Land Canada) will introduce the show as part of their new summer lineup by airing a 48 hour "I Love Lucy" marathon from 6:00 am Saturday June 30 and ending at 6 am Tuesday July 3. Talk about enjoying a long weekend! The episodes are mainly from the first 2 seasons and include the all-time classics "Lucy Does A TV Commercial" and "Lucy Goes To The Hospital". The show will join the regular lineup on Tuesday and will be shown weekdays at 12 and 12:30 pm as well as 8 and 8:30 pm. Full details of specific episodes can be found here.
