....because she was overshadowing Mary Tyler Moore on TMTMS? Somebody insists that was the case. I highly doubt it, but this person said that Rhoda was becoming more and more popular and CBS wanted more scenes with Rhoda in them, so instead Grant offered Valerie Harper her own show.

No I don't think thats the case,Valerie Harper was feeling like spreading her wings according to Alan Burns and James L.Brooks so they created the Rhoda spinoff.

I did see an interview with Valerie Harper in the 90s,she said how she was reluctant to do the "Rhoda" spinoff as she was really happy on TMTMS,Mary told her if the spinoff failed, she could come back to TMTMS.

She did have a more noticeable personality than Mary which is why I like her show better. So it maybe some truth to that

Mary Tyler Moore was a real trooper. She was the straight girl in a sitcom full of memorable characters. She could have had a hissy fit but instead let each character shine which benefited the show.

I don't think that's true. IIRC, when CBS offered Miss Harper the spinoff show, she initially declined out of loyalty to Mary but Mary urged her to take the offer. Of course, I'm interested in what Miss Harper has to say on this when she publishes her memoir soon.

Me too, I think the book comes out in January.
