I don't know who likes to study their ancestory and family lineage but I find it terribly fascinating. I love to know their names and some sure are unique. My maternal side of the family is very colorful with both my great grandmothers being named Doris. Doris T. (my grandma's mom), had a husband named Bliss. Bliss had brothers names Newell and Dwight and a sister named Hortense!

Anybody else have a few gems from their family tree?

I haven't traced my family tree that much but the name Charles is very common.

A paternal first cousin
A paternal great uncle

And myself, I was the first grandson on both sides so with 2 grandfathers named Charles, I was named that also.

One thing I found odd about my family is that we have several that were born on the 2nd day of any given month.

February 2nd - paternal uncle
March 2nd - my father
September 2nd - maternal great uncle
October 2nd - myself
December 2nd paternal uncle
December 2nd - paternal aunt
December 2nd maternal cousin

Seems that way doesn't it? 2 of my brothers were born on the 22nd (June & July) :lol:

My maternal grandmother's siblings had some very old fashioned names.

One of my ancestors from the early 1800's was a woman name Mehitable. I have a couple Lydia's which you don't hear that name much.

My mom has a female cousin that they called Tim. Mom told me that Tim's real name is Barbara, but when she was little she had a teddy bear named Tim and somehow, they started calling Barbara Tim, too.

Not too weird, but I also have an Aunt Agnes who we call Aunt Ag, and when I'm talking really fast to somebody about my Aunt Ag, it doesn't sound right and I have to tell them her name is Agnes.

I can only imagine how confusing it would be if everyone was in the same room. If someone said Charles six people would look up to see who was being called.

I have a lot of horrible german names in my family. My grandpa's name was Gerhardt, it's no wonder he went by Jerry. My great grandmas name was Hulda! I have a great uncle who we called Fritz but his real name was Friedle. My other Grandpa's name was Elmer and he had a twin sister named Alma. Actually Alma just turned 100 on the 21st! My parents broke the bad name cycle thank god. My niece has a nice name too, Samantha. Who I can say without bias in the cutest baby on the planet. :D

There really aren't many "Juniors" in my family, or any real outlandsih names, but for whatever reason my grandfather's middle name was "Buttress". As far as I know, that's not another name in our family. My parents don't seem to know the origin, and since my grandfather isn't here anymore to tell us, I guess it might always be a mystery. :confused:

A girl's a girl, I think. My great grandma on my dad's side was Mary and she named one of her daughters Mary but she wasn't called Mary Jr; she was called Mary Jo because her full birth name was Mary Josephine. It was a common thing to do back then because there weren't a lot of baby name books so a lot of people looked to their families and to the Bible for name inspirations.

I think to be a true Jr you have to have the exact name. Albert Robert Fuller. Albert Robert Fuller Jr. Many gals have different middle names and in time they get married so eventually use lose the same name.

One set of my great grandparents were named Paul, and Paula, like the pop singing duo with the 1963, 'Hey Paula'

My grandma and great grandma was named Emma which was a popular name in the late 1800's. Felt out favor for a while and then came back into favor in the 1980's. Emma Stone is one actress with the name.

My grandfathers name was George Washington Stone. I haven't really researched my family tree very far back. James is a pretty popular name on my mothers side though.
