Someone stated this and it doesn't seem right to me. She guest starred on an episode titled "Mary's Delinquent." I guess she was 14 or 15 at the time. I know she was a part of the famous Phillips family, I am just curious if this was Mackenzie's big break?

Was this before or after American Graffiti?

According to IMDB, American Graffiti was in 1973 and the episode in question was 1975. lol So I guess that answers that question. Although they insist that it was her appearance on the MTM show that got her the gig as Julie on One Day At A Time.

Betty White is so funny in that episode, when she appears with big hair at the end.

Yeah, she was wearing an afro wig. That is certainly not something you will see on TV now a days. lol

Mackenzie Phillips would have also taped the first two pilots to "One Day at a Time" by this time.

I don't know I've never heard that before but it seems doubtful to me.
