I would say NO and do without because the fun of buying DVD is the NEW DISCOVERIES

If the original network copies are available, and the studio is simply lazy and throws us the syndicated/edited versions of our shows, then I don't know if I would want to purchase it.

In the case of a show being available ONLY in edited form because the original prints were lost, then I would definitely buy the set, because that's all that may ever be available. At least I would own all the episodes available from this point on.

But what would you be paying for if they are syndicated prints? Remember we have a long history of enjoying syndicated prints for FREE so it's no way I will pay to see chopped up eps

I can't think of any other 70's show I would do it with.

I blame the studios that don't take proper care of their libraries for the lack of complete source materials for the DVDs. Sony couldn't find their masters of The Farmer's Daughter so Antenna TV could show it. Nor could they locate two unedited episodes of Hazel for the season 3 set. I'm sure that somewhere in their storage vaults, the original elements exsist. Sam Nelson is undertaking a massive project to restore the whole 435 (!) episode run of Ozzie and Harriet. When his uncle, David Nelson passed away last year, he peered into the family film vaults and found all the complete film elements for the series.

I;m still missing that season because I never bought when I heard it was edited.


Then I heard season 1 is UNEDITED on the Series Set which is close to a $100 so I don't think I will ever see season 1

Hint: Cosby season 1 was released unedited as a single season set in Germany... english audio of course.

I just like having episodes I can watch anytime I want and I'd prefer the originals but if syndication is all I can get then better than nothing I suppose.

It depends. If there are a decent # of eps on YouTube etc. then probably not.

If its a show I'm dying to watch, and edited versions were all there was, then I'd pony up. Something halfway decent is better than nothing. But I'd only buy from a distributor like Shout!, Sony etc.

I have so many DVDs that the only shows I pretty much plan to buy would be S4 & 5 of Eight Is Enough and the entire series of The Adv. of Ozzie and Harriet when it's released by Sam Nelson. That's not carved in granite of course, but I would think long and hard before making a purchase of any other show.

To me it would just feel like I;m being taken advantage of as a fan of the show since the production companies are making money of seen before footage. Especially if there is no bonus features added with the set.

Music substitution is lousy! Years ago I bought a videocassette of The Great Gatsby which took out 90% of the Oscar-winning music score (which consisted of really old 1920s tunes) and substituted flat, dull generic music, ruining the whole movie for me. When the DVD came out, they restored the music. I realize that music rights can be expensive, but watching a show with music substitutions is like watching half the show.

I'd buy it anyways like I did with Mama's Family...and we've yet to see a season 2 yet...come on WB, pop it outta the Archives like you did with Alice!

This was tough but I finally got it narrowed down.

I've bought edited TV DVDs in the past, but I wouldn't do it now. I only bought them because I hadn't seen the shows in so long and as much as I wanted to see them it was always a big disappointment that they were edited.

Happy Days is one show that if every remaining season was released and they were edited, i wouldn't bother since I been watching the show in syndication since 1989

Yes I'd by the show. I'd rather have an edited version than none at all
