Hazel Anyday

With all the Frank Cady rememberances, let's not forget his appearance on Hazel. He played the flag pole salesman (it's Flag day today too, perfect day to talk about this) and Hazel had to wheel and deal to buy the flagpole. As they tried to talk Mr. B into buying it, Hazel would mention one negative thing after another that COULD happen when you install a flagpole and to which Frank Cady would famously reply, "But that doesn't happen too often."

A truly funny episode. Part of what makes classic TV great is the parade of wonderful character actors who pass through each show. These people were never really well known by name, but absolutely by face. Elvia Allman, Will Wright, Charles Lane, Burt Mustin, Marjorie Bennett, Alice Pearce, Eleanor Audley, Hope Summers, Reta Shaw, Judith Lowery, Madge Blake, Dan Tobin, Helen Kleeb, Roy Roberts, Mary Wickes, Mary Treen, Dorothy Neumann, Harriet MacGibbon, Byron Foulger, Jessilyn Fax and of course, Frank Cady. These people are, of course, gone now, but what fun it is to see a vintage TV show and play the "guess who that is" game. I was always an avid credit reader and I play this game with my partner, a TV fan, but not a fanatic like me. Guess who wins?
