Was it ever explained what happened to the hotel after
Sophia arrived on Empty Nest? What happened to the other
girls?

I want to know why Sophia came on the show (how she came on IN the show) and what happened to the hotel of Golden Palace. Please reply. Thanks

Sophia shows up at Harry's door saying that she missed the old neighborhood and decided to move back...and that she moved back into Shady Pines. There's no mention of the Golden Palace or the other girls.

A lot of newer Golden Girls fans whom are huge fans of the show do not realize Sophia's history. She played the character for not just 7 years, but 10 SOLID YEARS. I remember watching Empty Nest in 1993 when Sophia joined, but I do not remember if she mentioned the hotel or the Golden Palace specifically. Had the Golden Palace been an NBC show, I think it would have been written in. But since it was on CBS, I expect the writers tried to erase every part of the history of the failed Golden Palace.

I was just 12 in 1993 and I do not remember a lot of specifics.

1. Why did Sophia join Empty Nest??? Was Empty Nest's ratings failing to the point where they needed to bring back some Golden Girls History???

2. Did Sophia ever mention what the Golden Girls were doing or any part of the Golden Palace???

Actually Dorothy gotten Married on the Golden Girls near the end of the shows run and moved away with her new Husband.

Blanche, Rose, and Sophia joined the Golden Palace, but still lived in Blanche's house. Then the Golden Place was supposed to have burnt down so Blanche sold her home and Rose and Blanche moved away. Rose went to live with her Daughter Kristy, and Blance went to live where she grew up in Georgia not actually the place since it was sold but close to it. Sophia liked the area and decided to stay and the only way she could stay was moving back to Shady Pines which she did, but most of the time hung around the Westons.

Did you say during the Golden Palace, the three girls stilled lived in Blanche's house. First of all, how could they afford both, and I thought they sold the house in the Fall of '92 and moved everything out of the house.

wow thats cool wonder how the Golden palace burnt down and when was all this metioned on Empty Nest that 2 moved away n stuff i must missed it.

I think Lifetime should pickup Empty Nest since it shared a lot of Golden Girls history since they are going to start airing the Golden Palace.

yeah that is kind of wierd as i remember Blanches house was sold and they bought the Hote.wonder how or when it burned down i never heard any news of it at all.

Blanch sold her house at the end of Golden Girls and the 3 girls moved to the hotel they owned which ended up Golden Palace

That is a LIE this did NOT happen on The Golden Palace or Empty Nest this person HUGHPUPPIES is making all this stuff up. Hey MikeL, I know how you feel it left all the fans with no Explantion of what happend. When Sophia came to Empty Nest in the fall of 1993 after The Golden Palace ended it was kind of sad not to know what happend to the Hotel or the girls. If The Golden Palace had been an NBC show, I think it would have been written in. but since The Golden Palace was on CBS, The writers of Empty Nest just erase every part of The Golden Palace history and had Sophia make no mention of The Golden Palace or the girls. . By the way have you seen The Golden Palace episodes when Sophia went to hide out at Shady pines it was a 2 part Golden Palace episode with Dorthey and the girls. I could see why she went back to Shady pines. That 2 part Golden Palace episode with Dorthey is coming on next week Aug 9 & 10 on lifetime tv. A must see for any Golden fans :)

hey that next week iam defentley going tape that i got all 4 episodes taped so far going tape more til they not on anymore.but it wasnt same without Bea Arthor Dorthy to me she was the entire show.earising everythig about a good show like Golden Palace n Golden girls ist just terribell like they didnt exist.oh by way u see the 1 empty nest when one of the girls talking about preguancy.and asked sophia what would happen if her daughter got preguant.and sophia said please my daughter 60 something in that case i have call.somebody.that was about only metion of one of the girls i heard through whole show.but in my case if i could been writer of Golden palace n empty nest.r something like that.i would of said.

If i was the writer of empty nest in the fall of 1993 i would of said... Blanche and Rose lost the hotel and move in with Dorothy her Husband. Sophia wanted to stay at the NEW shady pines so she did like the one in the the Golden palace episode I Love that shady pines THE END! :wave:

i can see it now Blanche r someone be coming home from date or outing and be yelling im home and she be in the other room saying.Archie is that u lol.

and at end they all be sleeping in bed and first think u hear is Edith singing away really loud i really wish that would of been done.

Would Empty Nest's ratings decline still would have happened or had been even worse without Sophia? Estelle Getty wasn't exactly getting "A material" anymore, and she could no longer handle long stretches of dialogue, but there were still a few tender moments like her and Harry going square dancing at Shady Pines.

I think the ratings decline would've been the same with or without Estelle since, as you say, she wasn't doing much on the show anyway. Kristy McNichol's departure was the biggest hit to the show's ratings, which started slipping in season 5. But when you add in the absence of The Golden Girls, plus NBC's dwindling interest in sustaining a strong Saturday night comedy block by those last couple seasons, plus weaker writing...it all contributes. It went from 17M viewers in season 1 to 6M in season 7.

Really, no one on the show was getting "A material" there towards the end. I'd say short of Kristy rejoining the show, nothing was going to elevate it...by that least season especially.

I liked seeing Estelle on there, although I wonder what would've happened had they brought in a different Golden Girl, say Betty White, instead. Although explaining Rose's constant presence around the Weston house would've been even odder than Sophia's.
