I decided to post the season 6 episode with Florida referencing Debby Boone because I just finished watching Maude and she made a reference to the same person. Debby Boone was a country singer in the 70's
The reference comes around the 1:20 to 1:30 mark

BTW: TV Land cut out the Debby Boone reference on Maude but not Antenna TV

Actually, Boone was a pop singer before she turned to country music and then later focused on gospel music. Her father is the well-known, Pat Boone. At the time she was referenced on both of those tv shows, she was extremely well-known for her number one hit, "You Light Up My Life". That song was being played all the time. It was the hit song of 1977. Debby was given the grammy for Best New Artist in 1978. I know all of this without researching it. Just stuff I know at the top of my head from the 70's.

Not to mention, she recorded several albums with her parents and sisters, and then just with her three sisters. All four Boone girls (Cherry, Lindy, Debby and Laury) are excellent singers and have that family musical harmony thing down. To this day, they still sing together occasionally for charity benefits and the like.
Like her father before her, Debby was seen as a totally un-hip, bland, "goody-two-shoes" type. I think the TV shows at the time that referenced her played up on her public image.
