My my, we're just full of Gilligan questions today.
Tha't good because I'm full of answers.

I guess the creators of the show wanted the action to revolve around the funniest character.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but Bob Denver was at the time one of the more well known of the cast members, having been on a successful show a few years earlier. (Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis 1959-1963)

Hi,everyone!!!

Sherwood Schwartz found the name Gilligan in the phone's book.He was looking for a funny name so,he choose Gilligan!!!!

The first to play Gilligan was Jerry Van Dyke:(I think Bob Denver was a better choice:)

Can you imagine:Jerry Van Dyke as Gilligan
Carrol O'Connor as the Skipper
Jayne Mansfield as Ginger
Dabney Coleman as the professor
Rachel Welsh as Mary Ann

The Howells always were the first choice!!!!

Sherwood's first choice to play Gilligan was Jerry Van Dyke but,he never actually played the role.Bob Denver was the first and the only one who played the lovable character.;)
