1. Season 1 is re-released and is uncut

2. Season 5 is released

I like this show enough to buy every season but I don't want to purchase a incomplete set so I rather wait. With other tv shows I purchased the DVD from the initial release but now that this series is stuck at season 4 I will just fall back and wait.

Hold Up on Season 5

Shout factory is having trouble acquiring the rights to season 5 and it's not looking good":(

Claimed they didn't have the original copies

The purpose of buying a DVD is to see "unseen footage"

Well, sometimes it's due to licensing issues, and sometimes due to the original footage having deteriorated beyond watchability.

I would have a little trouble believing the original footage has deteriorated when it's older shows that Rhoda that are out on DVD uncut

I agree, I mean I can see licensing, but unless there was a big fire at MTM studios, everything should be intact.

The footage has definatly not deteriorated, here is a snapshot from Comedy Gold's airing of the pilot episode, clocking in at 25:28 (compared to 22:50 on dvd).

The wedding episode is however oddly enough edited on comedy gold, but unedited on dvd.

Well now I;m confused again because I thought all the eps on season 1 were edited. So the fact that the wedding ep was not edited does that mean only some of the season 1 eps were edited and others were not?

If I remember correctly, 9 episodes (out of 25) were unedited on DVD, but none of them were digitally remastered... the quality is not that good. The colors are dark and the sound poor in some instances, but they run 25 minutes or so.

The remaining 15 episodes are from 1980s syndication prints, running 22:50 on DVD.

Comedy Gold have digitally restored versions of all episodes except the wedding episode, which is presented in poor quality AND edited 22:50min versions.

Note that the music edits present on DVD (in seasons 3 and 4) are also present on comedy gold, but all of season one (except the wedding) run between 25:00 and 25:30. Season five also airs in very good quality and all episodes are about 24:45 long.

So it seems like the only highlight on the season 1 DVD is the uncut wedding episode.
