In February 1971, All in the Family became the first sitcom to bring a gay man into America’s wallpapered, shag-carpeted, plaid-couched living rooms.

This character wasn't gay (or wasn't necessarily gay). Archie just made him out to be. Mike and Gloria chastised him about it later.

Gomer was just a country bumpkin and naive, not gay.

Actually, I thought Jim Nabors, himself was gay. Certainly not Gomer Pyle, though.

Jim Nabors has been rumored to be gay for many years but as far as I know, no credible evidence has been found supporting these claims and Jim hasn't admitted to anything.

The guy that played Dr. Bellows on I Dream of Jeannie was gay and proud.

The person who was gay on this episode of 'All in the Family' was the macho guy that Archie was arm wrestling with. The moral of the story was to not judge a book by its cover.
Does anyone remember the rumor about Jim Nabors being married to Rock Hudson???
