Fox411: Were you worried about giving Kelsey Grammar a spin-off? He certainly had his problems during ‘Cheers.’

WL: There was no choice. ‘Cheers’ was going away and I said, ‘There’s got to be something we can pull out of this,’ and really the only character who could be the center of a show was Frasier Crane. I'm not just saying this because Frasier is my all time favorite show, but I'm glad they gave Kelsey his own show and his own family.

I'm glad too, although I think it's interesting that they said he's the only character that could be the center of a show. I sort of see what they mean, because Frasier had some layers and some directions they could go with him, but couldn't they have given virtually any one of them a family and gone from there? And didn't they do that with Carla's character except without Carla?

Yeah, I could see them doing that with any of the other characters but I guess since Frasier had a wife and so forth it made sense to go with him! And I absolutely LOVE that they had him move to Seattle of all places!
