I have seen a promo for "The Summer of ME", and the logo for The Mothers-in-Law was flashed among those of other programs. According to Wiki, TMiL is listed as future programming, so I take that as a good sign. It will be good to see this show broadcast again finally. I just hope that the show is on at a time when my local affiliate will carry it. (It does not carry most programming during the overnight hours.)

I wouldn't consider a Wiki a good sign.

Here's a link to a full ME-TV promo, which appears to be based mostly on the promo from the DVD extras:

It's official now: The Mothers-in-Law will be joining the ME-TV lineup "Groovy Tuesday", Tuesday nights at 8:30 PM ET, as part of "The Summer of ME", premiering Tuesday, June 19. I don't know how long the show will last on ME-TV, but it should go through the summer at least.

In addition to the Tuesday night time slot, the series is also scheduled to run two episodes on Sundays. With only 56 total episodes, this is a good way not to saturate the audience with too many repeats. When this show was rerun on WGN-TV Channel 9 in the early 70s, it was stripped 5 days a week at 1:00pm with the result that the same episodes were in constant rotation. The prints for ME-TV are probably going to be from the MPI DVD set, which I understand has excellent quality. If the summer ratings warrant, ME-TV may place the show in a more permanent time slot, probably on weekends.

I recorded this show on DVR last night because I wanted to see how it looked on ME-TV. It was neat that ME-TV showed the NBC Peacock at the beginning and the NBC Snake at the end, but that'll probably only hold for the pilot rerun, since that's the only episode where the DVD set showed them. I also noticed how loud the pilot was overall, especially in the backyard scene in the rain. Kaye explained on the DVD featurette how she may have been quieter if the sitcom had been done 1-camera, but since there was an audience, she always tried to play to the back row.

I forgot to set my DVR on Tuesday but did record the 2 episodes on Sunday. They clocked at around 23 min so I'm assuming it's the full episodes with MeTV's respectable time compression. Overall this show was exactly what I was expecting - a lesser version of The Lucy Show. It was at least good enough to hold my interest so I'll keep watching and maybe even check out the DVD set.

The episode that aired on Tuesday was a pretty funny one, with the four adult characters trying to sleep in a crampt hotel room.

Rudley. Arden, Carmel. and Ballard all turned in nice performances in the eps I've seen -- their experience really seemed to carry this series, and make it worthwhile I think. I'll be watching later to see how Richard Deacon fared in his work.

I'm really curious to see how Richard Deacon's straight man fits into this show. I can only envision him bringing more of a proper balance to the table but the reviews I've read seem unanimously in favor of Carmel in the role.

Fun fact: Prior to The Mothers-In-Law, Herb Rudley played a psychiatrist on The Beverly Hillbillies (examining Jethro), and after the series ended, Richard Deacon also played one in the final season of TBH... (Granny's frog obsession)!

He plays the role very blandly--also there was quite the age difference between Deacon and Carmel. Carmel was only in his early 30s, while Deacon I suppose was in his mid 50s?

Deacon was born in May 1921, so he was likely 47 for most of the episodes where he played Roger. He was more than 11 years older than Carmel, born in Sept. 1932, who would have been 34 & 35 when he played Roger.

Deacon was bland in the role, but yes another part of the problem was the age difference between he and Roger Carmel. A younger actor would have been a better choice as Carmel's replacement, in another thread someone suggested Avery Schrieber, I think Avery would have been an excellent replacement. Richard Deacon was a good actor, he was great in Leave It To Beaver and The Dick Van Dyke Show, but he was definitely miscast in The Mothers In Law. Avery Schrieber was born in 1935, just three years younger than Roger Carmel who was born in 1932.

They aired the Raphael del Gado episodes on Sunday with Desi Arnaz and Desi Jr. They were easily the best I've seen of this show thus far. I kind of wish Desi would have relinquished some directing duties and made a more recurring role for himself somehow. It's a lot of fun to watch him play this character.

This summer, Me-TV showed 33 out of the 56 MiL episodes, all 30 from S1 and the first 3 from S2. The Sunday afternoon double showing started at S1-Ep12 ("Through the Lurking Glass"), so it was surely preplanned that MiL would have 11 weeks of reruns on Me-TV. It was good cross-section of shows from the series, and at least the first 2 eps of S2 (with the wedding & Paul Lynde) were funny episodes, despite not having RCC as Roger. I hope this series gets another run on Me-TV soon, though I am looking forward to the variety promised on the Me-TV Sunday Showcase also.

The Mothers-in-Law will be back on Me-TV this summer, but just once a week, Sundays at 2 PM ET. Enjoy it on tv while you can! :)

I'm loving watching...hadn't seen this tv show since it was first broadcast. I think it is quite funny.
