Did Hazel sing?

The most singing I remember Shirley Booth doing on Hazel was in the second season episode "I've Been Singing All My Life" in which she sang "Bye Bye Blackbird" to a group of children in a hospital. She sang "Mr. Finnegan" with Bobby Buntrock in "Hazel's Pajama Party" from the first season. I don't recall her singing in the fifth season, but in one episode she does a pretty funny "beatnik" recitation. I can't recall the title, but it has to do with Harold and his friends forming a rock group, and the adults are appalled by his "long" hair.

In the 5th season show you're talking about Hazel recites her "hep-cat" beatnick poem about the "berries, the blueberries..." She also sang "O Christmas Tree" in the 4th season Christmas episode. She also sang the "Senator McGuire" song, one in which "you'll perspire for Sen. McGuire" :lol: .

In Seasons 3 "An Example for Harold" she sings 3 Blind Mice with Cousin Gracie and Barney the mailman....Harold and Dorothy also join in.

Three Blind Mice must have been a popular tune at Columbia Pictures. It was used as the theme music in the openings for Columbia's Three Stooges shorts, it appeared in that Hazel episode you mentioned, Screen Gems being the TV offshoot of Columbia, and a disjointed version of the tune was used in the 1950 Columbia serial Pirates Of The High Seas.

Just thought of another one. In Seasons 4 "To Build or Not to Build"..Hazel sings her own rendition of "Old MacDonald had a Farm" into an old type reel tape recorder. She changes the lyrics to a kitchen renovation song.....She and Dorothy are trying to coerce George to spring for a new kitchen.

Hazel currently airs on Antenna TV, which, despite it's name is carried on certain cable and satellite carriers as well as standard over-the-air signals. Unfortunatly, it's not carried in every major city but that may change as they add new affiliates. It's Mon-Fri airings recently moved from a middle-of-the night time slot to 1:00pm (central time) airings consisting of 2 episodes daily. TV land carried Hazel in about 2001 on Sunday mornings for a while (a handful of early 1st season episodes), but hasn't shown it since then.

And Antenna TV shows ALL the Hazel episodes not just a select few b/w's the way TV Land did. What's worse TV Land kept repeating over and over those same few b/w shows till everyone got sick of it. Then TV Land could say, looks like Hazel just didn't get good ratings and used that to justify taking it off. It couldn't possibly have had anything to do with them only showing a few episodes repeatedly, naahhh. TV Land used to really make me mad back then. Now they are totally useless and I'm glad I cancelled my cable. Thank goodness for Free TV like Antenna TV, now I only wish I got Me-TV then life would be beautiful.

I haven't fallen into the cable trap for years now. I did invest in a Sony streaming box which virtually allows you to program your own favorite shows from a variety of sources: Hulu Plus gives you classics like Lost In Space, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Rhoda, Nanny and the Professor amd more. They DO have commercials, but no more than one minute per break. (sometimes 30 secs. or even less). Netflix gives you Andy Griffith, Dick Van Dyke, Dennis The Menace, Father Knows Best, Lassie, Dark Shadows, The Munsters, The Addams Family and more. These are commercial-free and are taken from their respective DVD sets. There are many classic documentaries and feature films, all without commercial interruption. On Vudu you rent the download or purchase it and they have many Warner Archive titles available. Netflix and Hulu Plus charge about $8.00 per month for unlimited streaming. Unfortunately Hazel is not offered on these services (yet). I realize we're getting off topic, but I had to share how much more I'm enjoying these services than cable.
