I have to agree with him for the most part. Season 5 had one of the most preachy eps. The Cocaine ep when Blair dates a guy who snorts to help him study. Classic Reagan ideological "War on Drugs' Propaganda. I'd love to re-write that ep (and many more).

I don't know if I'd go that far. It's well remembered by it's generation that lived through it and grew up with it. But beyond that I don't know if it transcends generations like some other sitcoms. Don't get me wrong, I love the show but it was your basic post-Lear sitcom where hotbed issues were tackled but in a way where they skewed them somewhat and often talked down to their audience.

It wasn't until shows like "Beverly Hills: 90210" in the early nineties where these same issues started being tackled with a degree of realism without the moralistic overtones which is why I believe that series was so groundbreaking. It was written with the assumption that it's audience didn't need to be taught anything, that their audience was informed but perhaps wanted to see these issues played out in a more realistic light. I'm not sure if that is the right phraseology but I think you can see what I'm driving at.
