I watched Unsolved Mysteries (not to mention Cops and America's Most Wanted) as a kid the same way a typical family would put on a fun Disney movie lol. Always loved it and I always will :D

Anyway, I was wondering if you could help me find out what case I'm remembering. Here's the details I recall:

-I don't think it's classified as a missing persons case.
-There's a young guy in the case who gives up all his money and possessions for some reason to live in a trailer out in the wilderness.
-He becomes a hermit.
-They find him emaciated from lack of food and dead in his sleeping bag.
-It's possible that upon autopsy they found out he had eaten something poisonous to survive.

Does any of this ring a bell to anyone?

This doesn't sound like an Unsolved Mysteries case. In fact it sounds like Christopher McCandless. They made a film about his story called "Into The Wild". It's based on a book by John Krakauer.

I'm pretty sure it did happen in the 90s. I believe this is definitely the case you are thinking of.

This is definitely from the book "Into the Wild" - which is sitting right next to me as I type this. :-)
