View Full Version : Van Halen Reportedly Hate Eachother Again, Postpone 30 Nearly Sold Out Shows
Brian Damage 05-18-2012, 09:51 AM Van Halen have abruptly postponed all tour dates after their June 26th show in New Orleans with no explanation.
The band yanked more than 30 long-planned dates, including shows in Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Salt Lake City and El Paso. Local promoters United Concerts and AEG issued statements regarding some postponed shows to local media, including the Salt Lake Tribune and Las Cruces Sun-News, but no details have been offered yet about rescheduled dates or refunds.
Nearly all of the tour is promoted by Live Nation, whose reps wouldn't comment. The band's rep also had no comment. A source with knowledge of the tour tells Rolling Stone that Van Halen's members "hate each other." Adds the source, "The band is arguing like mad. They are fighting."
News of the postponed tour dates surprised several arena reps, who are featuring upcoming Van Halen shows prominently on their websites. "You want to know the absolute ****in' truth? I have no ****in' idea," another concert-business source with knowledge of the tour tells Rolling Stone.
"It's selling pretty good – I don't know why they would say it's being canceled," says a source at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, where the band was supposed to perform on July 7th.
Several of the non-canceled dates have nearly sold out, including this Saturday's show in Minneapolis and June 20th in Dallas. "We're selling really well," says Jack Larson, vice president and general manager of the Xcel Energy Center. "We're looking forward to it."
After decades of touring with Sammy Hagar (and, for a brief period in the late 1990s, Gary Cherone), Van Halen reunited with David Lee Roth for a 2007 tour and hit the road again with him in February. The band released its first new album with Roth, "A Different Kind of Truth," earlier that month. It sold 187,000 copies in its debut week and hit Number Two.

robyrob 05-18-2012, 10:30 AM the only way everyone in Van Halen could ever all get along would be if Eddie fired everyone and just played all the instruments himself.
MrCleveland 05-18-2012, 10:53 AM Eddie seems to have a problem with control, I think it's time to get this M to show-up on the show!...

catlover79 05-18-2012, 11:24 AM I heard this on the news last night because Cleveland was among the cities that got scratched from the tour. Why am I not surprised?
ABlairican Pie 05-18-2012, 05:06 PM This would be an interesting turn of events, because David Lee Roth is the only one not related to the other members this time around.
Still, it doesn't surprise me.
catlover79 05-18-2012, 09:59 PM Note to Wolfie: you're young and have your whole future ahead of you. GET OUT NOW and start your own band while the going is still good!!!!
Brian Damage 05-18-2012, 10:07 PM Even rockstars can get tired ... and TMZ has learned that's exactly why Van Halen decided to postpone 31 upcoming concert dates.
Sources close to the band tell us ... the guys felt like the current schedule was "too much, too fast" ... and they were "losing their focus."
One source tells us, "They're simply burned out" ... adding, "They want to make sure their concerts are not a routine ... they want every performance to be special."
We're told the guys want to take some time to "re-charge their engines" ... so they can rock all 31 cities the way Van Halen fans expect to be rocked.
As for rumors that Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth are feuding ... we're told "It's total B.S."

Neither am I
catlover79 05-18-2012, 10:22 PM I think a lot of people aren't buying this.
duckie 05-18-2012, 10:29 PM From a story I just read, Sammy Hagar said its the brothers fault. He said thats the reason he left the band because Eddie and Alex were so hard to get alone with. He said he predicted the tour to end sooner and lost a bet because it lasted longer than what he predicted.
catlover79 05-18-2012, 10:36 PM Again, it's a good thing Michael Anthony no longer has to put up with Eddie and Alex. I mean, how many bands would jump all over the opportunity to have Mike in THEIR lineup???

I agree, Michaels a darn good bass player. To bad he couldnt hook up with Sammy and his band, Chickenfeet or Chickenfoot or something like that. lol
catlover79 05-18-2012, 11:30 PM Not only is he a superb bassist, he's not too shabby as a vocalist. I believe the name of the band is Chickenfoot, but I'll defer to Greg aka Ablairican Pie on this one.

Monika, yes it is Chickenfoot. Michael is in CF along with Sammy. The band also consists of the amazing Joe Satriani on guitar and Chad Smith of the RHCP on drums.
catlover79 05-19-2012, 10:02 AM Thanks for confirming that!! It sounds like a much healthier situation for both Mike and Sammy.

While I'm sure it hurt to be dismissed by VH, I imagine that Mikey probably reads stuff like this and goes, "Thank God I don't have to put up with that crap anymore."
When you see him with Sammy/Chickenfoot, you can tell he's having fun.
He's much better off without VH.
catlover79 05-19-2012, 10:27 AM :yeahthat
While I know that Sammy and Mike are good friends, how did Mike get along with Diamond Dave?

I think Mike is one of those guys who gets along with everybody. I don't think he had strong feelings either way for Dave. I've never heard him say anything too negative about him.
But then again, Mikey doesn't speak negatively of anyone, so it's hard to say.
Whenever anyone asks me how old I am, I tell them that I'm seven Van Halen breakups old.

 Brad!!!
Have you ever seen The Wedding Singer? There's a scene where Adam Sandler's ex-girlfriend is wearing his VH T-shirt and he says "Take off my VH shirt, you're going to jinx them and cause them to break up!!":D
JO Sweet Heart 05-19-2012, 02:34 PM I am so glad that things like this very rarely happen in my favorite music if ever at all any. Normally if any country music performances are ever canceled or delayed, it is due to sickness or bad weather. That is whats so awesome about country music. The singers always at least try to keep their fans in mind. After all it is always going to be them versus however many fans it is that they have. :) :) :)
God bless you and those who are in country music always!!! :) :) :)

Yep. I like that line. A nice premonition of breakup #1. :)
UMFaninMD 05-19-2012, 04:23 PM I'm surprised it lasted this long.
I'm surprised it lasted this long.
Right? They went a good five years. When the reunion was announced in early 2007, I didn't think it would even get off the ground. How wrong I was.
At least we got a halfway-decent album out of the deal (though I would have preferred Michael Anthony to Wolfie).

Can you post a link to that story?
Dr. Thong 05-20-2012, 05:11 PM I love Sammy, but he needs to get a hobby.
The VH bashing has gotten old.

I have no idea how to do that other wise I would of done it when I first read the story.

If Eddie and Alex are that hard to work with, as far as im concerned, Sammy can bash them all he wants, they deserve it. I think its funny!

It's not that difficult,
find the story and click the address bar.

It was really funny in the summer of 1996 when Sammy was ousted -- I would watch MTV's Week In Rock every week to see the latest installment of the Van Halen soap opera.
One week, they talked to Eddie and Alex. Eddie was really hostile and serious and it was my first glimpse into the fact that Eddie was difficult to work with and a control freak.
In the years prior, he would always goof around in interviews with that goofy, drunken grin, but now it was all business.
And Alex was like Ed McMahon, repeating and emphasizing the things that his brother said.
catlover79 05-21-2012, 08:52 PM Van Halen - once a rock opera reduced to a soap opera. The all-time champs in the band most like a soap opera category, however, will always be Fleetwood Mac.

Yeah, but even FM has moved past the drama stage.
Although I do think there'll always be a little tension between Stevie and Lindsey.

It is Chickenfoot, and it does have one of the greatest guitarists of all time,
Joe Satriani, who doesn't have goofy issues!!  :D

JamesG 06-13-2012, 02:16 PM Eddie Van Halen Reveals Why His Band Canceled 30 Tour Dates
6/13/2012
by Aaron Couch
After Van Halen abruptly decided to postpone more than 30 dates on its North American tour, fans speculated that the infighting that had historically plagued the band was back. The band insisted it was simply a case of being overbooked.
Now Eddie Van Halen has offered his take.
"We bit off more than we could chew," Van Halen told USA Today.
"This record took a lot out of us. And we went on tour earlier than we wanted to so we could play Madison Square Garden (in March, before a renovation), and that threw the schedule out of whack."
Van Halen, whose 21-year-old son Wolf is playing bass for his second tour with the band, said many of the canceled shows were in cities they had already played.
"So in November, we'll hit Japan, and in the new year, we'll possibly do something special, but I can't talk about it."
In the interview, the iconoclastic guitarist also revealed playing live still makes him so nervous that he vomits.
"Really. I did it just before the show last night," the elder Van Halen said. "Then I don't eat, so by the time I get offstage, I'm cooked."
