OR was she already pretty much known when the sitcom 1st aired?

Nell had a supporting role on the BJ and the Bear spin-off show Lobo the season before Gimme a Break went on the air. I think Gimme a Break made her a star but I did know her from that show.

I am going to have to say that I had never heard of her prior to the time that "Gimme a Break!" first aired. However, I was only twelve years old at the time. I feel unable to even venture a guess whether the average adult thought about her one way or the other prior to the start of the show.
