I would have sampled the show if that was 10pm instead of 10am.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post this or not but it looks like this week may be the last airing for the show in the 10am ET time slot on GMC. According to my DirecTV guide it looks like it's going to be replaced by Don't Forget The Lyrics starting June 11 at 10am ET. Also, I'm not entirely sure if this means that Family Ties is off their schedule.

Not true. They haven't updated their schedule starting June 11 yet.

Don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but the fact that they are showing 4 episodes during the daytime hours might mean that they are getting ready to cancel the show on UP and are airing a quick run before it goes off on UP. 4 episodes at one time is quite a few.

Again, it might also mean that they figured that daytime is a better time for the show. It's still being run at 2:00 and 2:30 am as well.

I think it will depend on what the network's plans are for the show. Like I said in a previous statement, four episodes at one time are alot and would make the series run faster.

UP has also already started to introduce some of it's own programming. We don't know if this is part - time filler before it moves on with another series or they plan on keeping it there.

They were showing it during the day like a year ago but then moved in to 2 AM! I assume the ratings weren't very good.

As been said on several threads on this board, "Family Ties" has never done well in syndication. As of now it's on both at 10:00 am until 12:00 noon and continues to be on at 2:00 and 2:30 am.

My belief is that UP is going to mixing things up a bit within the next several months and are showing "Family Ties" in the morning as it's last run during the day. With four episodes going on every morning the series will run out fast.

It has already been on several cable networks and each time it goes to the graveyard shift within a short period.

I wonder why it does so poorly when it was so big in the 80s!

There are various theories that I have read that explains that phenomenon. Check out some of the topics on the "Family Ties" message board and you might get the overall picture as of wy.

Thanks, will do.

I thought maybe it wasn't diverse enough but Friends and Seinfeld weren't diverse and they were huge hits. Leno made jokes about how white Friends was!

The Waltons is returning on Monday (June 10), replacing Family Ties from 10am-12pm. However, the sitcom will still air 2-3am.

I'm glad the Waltons are coming back, but I'm not surprised that "Family Ties" got moved like "Petticoat Junction", it doesn't do well in ratings. "Petticoat Junction just got removed from Me-TV line-up who knows when I'll see it again. But I try not to take it personally some shows do well and some don't.

I remember that and thought that was the perfect time slot for it. I loved waking up to Family Ties!! They had a two hour block of Family Ties for a while until they moved it.

Sad how it's moving back to 2-3 am. :(

I also wonder why it doesn't do well in syndication when the show was such a hit in its original run.

The show is seen as somewhat outdated by some, it revolves around the Reagan era and unlike other shows that revolve around certain issues of their time, such as "All in the Family", is not written quite as well.

I thought it was a very well-written sitcom. But I can see how some people might find it "outdated." Perhaps it could have to do with the 80s not being as explosive or watershed as the 70s (In comparison to AITF at least.)

Watch some of the episodes if you can either at 2 am or on stream, which I have found on several links. The show is well written but not as explosive and in a way somewhat saccharine to what they show today.

I never heard of World Harvest TV. How long have they been in existence?

Otherwise, I know "Family Ties" has played on many different cable networks in syndication, however, has never done well and usually starts off as a daytime or evening show and either gets cancelled within a year or two or goes directly to the graveyard shift within a few weeks.

Some of the other cable systems that have tried it are Hallmark (lasted only several weeks there), Nick at Night, TVLand and TBS. It currently runs on UP and Harvest World TV apparently. In fact, on UP, they tried to redo it early in the morning but quickly returned it to 2:00 and 2:30 am.

World Harvest goes back to the 1970s ("LeSea"), but still have only around a half-dozen stations. Maybe you can pull one in. Their markets are Indiana, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Oklahoma; apparently they can be picked up in Chicago too.

They've had Family Ties I would guess for more than a decade now. It's usually aired around 5 p.m. give-or-take.

I just looked at the schedule for World Harvest TV and "Family Ties" is not on it. Maybe you are thinking of another network or they cancelled it.

The only two ways that I have found it is through UP TV and on internet stream services.

Right here: WHME "World Harvest Michiana Entertainment"; currently FT is still airing at 5 p.m. eastern. Maybe it's not appearing in listings because of which subchannel; in my case I catch both 46.1 and 46.2. This happens to be "the flagship station for the World Harvest network."

"By the early 1990s, more 70's and 80's sitcoms such as Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Family Ties, and others moved onto the schedule."

I have an idea of who they are now. I am surprised that they have kept "Family Ties" running that long since other stations have dropped it very quickly.

I had a local affiliate that ran it at 5 pm weekdays for a couple years. They stopped about a year ago.

We can go on and on with a discusson on the show and it's current popularity, but it does seem to go to the graveyard shift or cancelled very quickly on most stations. To me it's still mainly on video stream on the Internet and extremely late at night on UP, who tried to put it back on during the daytime but got many letters requesting that it returns the Waltons at 10:00 AM.

A lot of the shows from the 80's aren't even seen any more. I can name dozens. I think The Cosby Show ,Cheers and Golden Girls are about the only ones that have been on cable channels at good times in recent years. Family Ties has fared better than Night Court. I can't even remember the last time I saw that show on TV.

WHME for years and years has run Hogan's Heroes, My Three Sons, and Family Ties -- I can only recall some interruption of HH. They also ran Green Acres for many, many years, with interruptions (including now). In the past they had Lassie, and have brought it back recently along with The Lone Ranger. They've added The Rifleman in recent years, and most recently Roy Rogers and Highway to Heaven.

Those I listed first have been their live-action mainstays. There are some eps of those that I've viewed as many as 8 or 9 times over the years...!

WHME seems like a very small station playing very old shows. Like how Nick @ Nite and TVLand began. If they ever grow, they might want to consider showing more updated shows as well.

The pattern that I have noticed over the years is about the same. When a classic station begins or one that shows many reruns, it starts off with some very old shows that you rarely see anymore. As they get more popular they start showing what gets better ratings and develops their own shows as well.
