well I thought this was interesting.

Last week, I re-watched the Bo Tanner segment. I happened to notice that Detective Pat Walsh, who was featured in the segment, blinked his eyes a lot.

Well, the other day, I was going through some stuff, and happened to discover a Dateline NBC episode I had taped some time ago, and wasn't even aware I had (but I'm glad I did, because it's a doozy.)

It was the case of Ted and Jesse Ernest from Big Fork, Montana. And as I got to watching it, I noticed those same blinky eyes. It was Detective Pat Walsh from the Bo Tanner segment, he was in this one too! The thing is, I probably wouldn't have paid all that much attention or noticed if it wasn't for the blinky eyes.

If you've never heard of this case, it's pretty intriguing. Basically, Larry Streeter, who was pretty well known in the area through his various businesses, was gunned down on Christmas night. The case was cold for awhile, until Jesse told a friend about it, who in turn told the police. Authorities questioned Jesse, who knew there was another person involved. Jesse was reluctant, but revealed the trigger man was his brother, Ted, who was a local hero, and one of the world's best wheelchair racers. (he was paralyzed in a childhood accident). Ted's plans were for Jesse to be the one who was supposed to shoot Larry, but he backed out when it came time, and Ted gunned him down himself. Jesse tried to prevent Ted from doing it, but he did anyways.

Ted pled guilty and was sentenced to life behind bars. Prosecutors also went after Jesse, who is mentally slow, even though he wasn't the trigger man and he asked Ted not to kill Streeter. Prosecutors suckered Jesse into a deal where he would plead guilty and get a light sentence. The deal went south, and Jesse was sentenced to life behind bars as well. That decision was unpopular in the community, and a new defense lawyer managed to get a new trial for Jesse (with a new judge). The new lawyer happened to discover that Jesse had a rare medical condition that forced him to be reliant on others in decision-making. It was also revealed that Jesse was mistreated by Ted, and also that Jesse was the recipient of daily physical and emotional abuse from his parents.

Ha! There he is again! Detective Pat Walsh turned up in the Disappeared episode on Noah Pippin. He certainly makes the rounds on true crime shows.
