What show do you prefer? I Love Lucy or The Dick Van Dyke Show?

ILL by far, never really got into the DVDS.

I Love Lucy by far.

As much as I love Lucy (and I do!) I love TDVDS even more!

I'll give the slight edge to The Dick Van Dyke Show,but both of course are very good and true classics.

I'm a fan of both shows but if I have to pick one, then I Love Lucy would be my choice.

I love and respect Dick Van Dyke, but I'm an "I Love Lucy" Fan.

Both shows are great but if they were timeslot rivals I would go with Dick Van Dyke since I've seen Lucy a lot more.

I prefer The Dick Van Dyke Show for one simple reason: the show never faltered or lost its edge. I really enjoy I Love Lucy (as well as The Lucy Show) but there was clearly a dip in quality near the end.

I Love Lucy is very dated, although one of the main regulars of the series was a foreign, non white, multilingual Cuban Hispanic man. Remember, this show started in 1951. Harry Truman was President.

As someone said about Dick Van Dyke, I can like and respect Lucille Ball and her work. Many people thought she was hilarious. Lucy gave 1000% (that's one thousand percent) to her shows, but I never (and this is my taste) liked her as a comedienne.

The Dick Van Dyke Show is timeless and this show could be made today. Rob works as a writer for a television show. He has two madcap co-workers, Sally (Rose Marie) and Buddy (Morey Amsterdam), an oppressive boss (Carl Reiner) and his underling Mel (Richard Deacon). He goes home to his gorgeous wife (a 25 year old Mary Tyler Moore, again for clarification, A 25 YEAR OLD MARY TYLER MOORE) and child.

The only thing I would change to make a modern show is to have the Laura character have her own job and career. And they sleep in their own bed. Again, I can helping that even in 1961-2 America, men aren't saying to themselves, why does this dork guy have a different bed from her in the same room? The rest of the show was perfect.

I have said this on the board before, but Ellie Kemper who plays Erin on "The Office" reminds me so much of Mary Tyler Moore. Very similar mannerisms, way of speaking. If they ever did a biopic of MTM, Ellie Kemper should play the role. Give the character the name Lauren or Lorraine (long for Lorri, which would be similar to Laura and a touching tribute to the original character. Full name, Lauren Mary Moore. If the show is a hit and there is a second child, a son, the name Grant Louis would be appropraite.)

Ed Helms plays the Dick Van Dyke role as the grandson of Robert Petrie, Bobby Petrie, the son of Richie, who can be played on a recurring basis by Larry Matthews if he wants the role. Bobby is the head writer of a David Letterman like "Late Night" talk show, and like the Reiner character, this guy is a big ass of a person too. Buddy could be black in this incarnation. Sally could be played by a "hot" woman who gets attraction from men all the time but want the man to like her for her instead of her face and body.

If I was an anybody for a network, I would pitch this to anyone who would listen because I think this would be a good show that would last several seasons and make a star out of Ellie Kemper and I think Helms could do this show and do movies at the same time. They could have a child and have the same joke as in the old DVD series when Rob (or Bobby) jumps out of bed with his clothes on ready to take the wife to the hospital.

That is a tough one, going to remain undecided on this one

I'm going to go with" I Love Lucy". But that's only because I have seen very little of "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

I like them both.

I like both, but I voted for ILL.

I can't vote on this one because I love them both so much.
