Four years after trying to revive Murphy Brown as a platform to chime in on the heated 2008 Clinton/Obama/McCain presidential campaign, the sitcom's creator, Diane English, is again talking to CBS and Warner Bros. about a series of political-commentary specials with Candice Bergen back in character as the tough-talking TV journalist.

"I'd love to have the show back on during this election year," Diane told me at the TV Land Awards, where the series received the Impact Award. "We're having a little conversation with CBS about a few episodes, and I think it's possible. Candice knows about it, and we're going to talk to her more in July once she wraps her Broadway play ['The Best Man.']"

Maybe Murphy could get the current crop of candidates to focus on the issues that really matter. Remember how she put Dan Quayle in his place?

they couldn't even sell enough of the season 1 DVD's to justify any further releases; how are they going to sell anyone on a new show?

It is not like we don't know which candidate they will be pushing. Given the closeness of recent elections you are turning off a large amount of viewers off the bat. It is not like they are going to be fair and balanced.

The Dan Quayle incident ruined the show for me. Keep politics out of sitcoms unless you are going to be even handed.

Yup, and Patty Heaton has mentioned being passed over for quite a few roles after "coming out" as a pro-life, conservative Republican.

I was not aware there were talks in 2008. I'm a Murphy fan, but not sure how something like this would come off.

It WOULD be kind of interesting to see Candice as Murphy today and how the character would be like now. But that's OK for a reunion movie, not a whole new series!!!!
