Or is it Charlie Sheen or perhaps Chuck Lorre? OR is the show just fine?

I would say the blame should be shared by Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre. Sheen's behavior was inexcusable and it was his own fault that he got fired.
Chuck Lorre elected to continue the show and cast Ashton Kutcher as the lead.
You can't replace an actor for whom the show was written for and built around. They should have ended it last year, but I'm sure the motivating factors for continuing were ego (we can do it without Charlie) and money (the show was a top rated show).
I watched the first two episodes of the season and haven't gone back since.

I think the real issue with Two and a Half Men is Jon Cryer's character, Allen. I think they have taken his role of pathetic way too far and it's made the show unwatchable.
I don't really have an issue with the Ashton character; Walden.
