View Full Version : Was There An 'All in the Family' Episode That You Feel Was Too Dramatic? Brian Damage 04-28-2012, 11:19 PM Is there an episode of AITF, that really was a bit too heavy for a sitcom? An episode that maybe went a tad too far? MikeLutton 04-29-2012, 08:33 AM yes the Edith bunkers 50th Birthday was one that was too dramadic for a comedy and ediths crises of faith was another one to strong for a sitcome way to dramadic OH Nuts! 05-01-2012, 11:59 PM Beverly's mugging and death TVFactFan 05-02-2012, 12:29 AM Is there an episode of AITF, that really was a bit too heavy for a sitcom? An episode that maybe went a tad too far? The rape episode which way too dramatic for a sitcom comedyfreak 05-03-2012, 08:17 AM I'm in the minority here and don't think it was too dramatic for a comedy since it still had comedy elements in the episodes. I liked it cause it had me choked up one minute and laughing the next. I guess it was a small comedy moment when edith smashed the burnt food in the rapist face-lool Mr. Television 05-03-2012, 07:11 PM Beverly's mugging and death That's the one I would pick. I watched it when it originally aired and it was very depressing for a Christmas episode. TVFactFan 05-03-2012, 07:40 PM I think the ep when Edith has a lump on her breast was too serious a topic for a sitcom comedyfreak 05-04-2012, 03:38 AM I guess it was a small comedy moment when edith smashed the burnt food in the rapist face-lool I was thinking the scene where Archie and Mike are holding the punch bowl and it gets dropped and both blame each other. "You did it!, "You did it!!". had me rolling on the floor. 704Hauser 05-09-2012, 05:40 AM Edith Gets Fired, and that was more drawn out than dramatic. I thought Edith's 50th Birthday mixed drama and comedy rather well, especially when the rapist got what he deserved! TVFactFan 05-09-2012, 02:12 PM I don't know why a topic like "cancer" was inserted into the script because that is way too serious for a sitcom. I criticized Good Times for the same thing. Buffyboy323 07-14-2012, 02:09 PM One episode that may have been too dramatic was "The Draft Dodger." That episode had one of the most intense, longest arguments on All In The Family. The acting was all around superb, and very dramatic. It was a little tough for a Christmas episode of a sitcom. TVFactFan 07-14-2012, 02:56 PM AITF had too many dramatic eps which is why it's not a great show for syndication only DVD. Buffyboy323 07-14-2012, 03:01 PM AITF had too many dramatic eps which is why it's not a great show for syndication only DVD. Is there really a difference? TVFactFan 07-14-2012, 03:19 PM Is there really a difference? I mean that once I buy the remaining seasons on DVD which is seasons 6 to 9 to see the footage I never seen before, I won't be watching the show ever again because it's not a great "fall back show" like The Cosby Show Fresh Prince Friends Three's Company Buffyboy323 07-14-2012, 03:44 PM I mean that once I buy the remaining seasons on DVD which is seasons 6 to 9 to see the footage I never seen before, I won't be watching the show ever again because it's not a great "fall back show" like The Cosby Show Fresh Prince Friends Three's Company Because of the issues that were discussed? You think it's stuck in the '70s? Or do you feel like you cannot watch a serious type show more than once? TVFactFan 07-14-2012, 03:50 PM Because of the issues that were discussed? You think it's stuck in the '70s? Or do you feel like you cannot watch a serious type show more than once? Yes, it's hard to watch a serious show more than once. There are still some eps I can watch again but others I refuse to watch like the cancer episode, edith's rape episode, and the ones when Archie is missing Buffyboy323 07-14-2012, 11:58 PM Yes, it's hard to watch a serious show more than once. There are still some eps I can watch again but others I refuse to watch like the cancer episode, edith's rape episode, and the ones when Archie is missing Do you not watch any serious episodes of Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, Good Times, etc.? TVFactFan 07-15-2012, 12:03 AM Do you not watch any serious episodes of Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, Good Times, etc.? If Diffrent Strokes was on cable I wouldn't watch the one when Mr. Drummond was in a accident I can't remember any serious eps of FOL because it's been out of syndication so long For Good Times I always skip the Penny abuse eps, James death, and the eps when J.J thought he had VD Buffyboy323 07-15-2012, 12:09 AM If Diffrent Strokes was on cable I wouldn't watch the one when Mr. Drummond was in a accident I can't remember any serious eps of FOL because it's been out of syndication so long For Good Times I always skip the Penny abuse eps, James death, and the eps when J.J thought he had VD Fair enough. You're biased. TVFactFan 07-15-2012, 12:12 AM Fair enough. You're biased. That's why I like George Lope so much, no serious eps.......ALL FUN:lol: Buffyboy323 07-15-2012, 12:31 AM That's why I like George Lope so much, no serious eps.......ALL FUN:lol: I'm yet to sit through a full episode. :bonk: I wouldn't say I "enjoy" them, but I do like serious episodes. I like the balance of comedy mixed in with a few dramatic moments. While TV is a great escape, I appreciate when sitcoms hit a nerve every so often and reassure us viewers that they're fun and whacky, and also grounded in reality. All In The Family is no exception. Damm On to Three's Company:lol: visaman666 07-15-2012, 05:23 AM If Diffrent Strokes was on cable I wouldn't watch the o James death, and the eps when J.J thought he had VD James has VD would have been a better episode. Dr. Thong 07-15-2012, 02:54 PM James has VD would have been a better episode. And it would have been funnier if he'd gotten it from Willona. treky 07-21-2012, 12:32 AM I agree with Sol, the rape episode was too dramatic. steevo 10-23-2012, 08:14 PM The two-part KKK episode was very dramatic at the end of part two when Mike wouldn't let Archie hold Joey when he learned Archie (accidentally) joined the group. comedyfreak 10-24-2012, 05:51 AM I'll have to go back and watch that episode because I don't remember it. howilu 11-02-2012, 03:09 PM How about the last episode with Mike and Gloria as they leave New York for California? The last scene was really sad. |
