Has anyone else watched the original 1977 miniseries, Roots, this past week on The Hallmark Channel?
I wasn't born until 1981 but I had always wanted to watch this epic miniseries that defined the genre, not to mention being one of the highest rated television events in TV history.
For those of you who have never seen it, watch it, this is a must see for everyone, of all races.

Why not start a new thread with this rather than bump one from 14 years ago?

I didn't watch it when it was first on because I didn't want to watch anything 8 days in a row. It was a huge deal back then. I remember seeing a few minutes of it the first night and couldn't understand how any of the details of individual slave's lives 200 years before could have possibly been known. Eventually of course the story came out that Alex Haley made it all up. But revisionist history seems to have forgotten this.

I heard about Haley making it up. I may have second thoughts about seeing the remake.

Alex Haley also apparently, plagiarized (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Courlander#Roots_and_the_issue_of_plagiarism) parts of Roots.

But it's a story about supposedly heroic black people so to the ultra liberal mainstream media the truth makes no difference.

Right, because Fox News is never mainstream.
Quit hating on Liberals. It's unhealthy.
