What's wrong with it?

if you click the down arrow next to search, it brings up shaded boxes that you can't write anything in.

Search appears to be working fine. Try clearing out your cookies and temporary files.

The search feature doesn't work when trying to find a specific thread. I know there is a long running thread about shows that changed networks (not the TMC one that doesn't have a response), but typing that title in didn't get what I needed. It was mostly a bunch of random threads that came up, nothing to do with what I searched. This has happened before with trying to find specific threads but they aren't revealed.

Ya they really me$$ed up the search feature in 3.x .. Search worked fine in VB2.x and lower..........

You need to use specific search terms. I searched the General TV section for Taxi. I found the thread.

Searching for more than one network brings it up.

The search index needs to be rebuilt at some point. There were many common words (such as down and under) that were omitted from the search database up until a few years ago.

Yea search was much better on 2.x Todd....

Are you clicking on View Today's Active Threads also? That would be two searches. I haven't seen this error.

In case I had reversed the order nothing showed for Babylon 5 vs. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine nothing was there either. Nothing on the Sci-Fi board as well.

It's also the first result when searching titles only.

No, I'm visiting "View New Threads" only, and this error will still occur.

I'm rebuilding the search index today. It hasn't been rebuilt since we last upgraded the software in 2018. I had tried to do it a few times in the admin control panel, but it would run out of memory and timeout. I'm doing it in the command line, so it should work without any interruptions. Around 100,000 posts have been processed so far.

There were quite a few words which weren't included in the search index up a few years ago. It should return more and better results once it finishes. It might take a full day or two for it to complete.

It took only 9 hours, 7 minutes and 16 seconds for the search index to be rebuilt. I thought it was going to take 2-3 days.

Any words with 3 or more letters should be included in the search index.

I think 2 is the min on any site...... It would be too hard to find just 2 letters I think....

Search feature is not working at all in the 2AM hour. I tried three different times (waiting a few minutes between each search) to search for the Recipe for Stuffed Camels thread I might have posted here two years ago. After first search it said my browser and Cloudflare were working, error was with Sitcoms Online. After second and third searches got an internal 503 service error message. The whole camel must have come with his lamb and chicken friends in self defense kicking the server to prevent their broiling. ;) :sheep :mistered:

I searched my e-mails for stuffed camels. I guess you would have posted it on Chit Chat. I don't see it. Maybe you posted it somewhere else.

If you do a Google search, there are recipes for stuffed camel.

Doing a search for stuffed camel brings it up. If you a do a plural search for camels, it's not found.

Is there a way to only get the threads with your search term in the title of them?

Let’s use Valerie as in example. A ‘Valerie Bertinelli’ search will find not only threads where she’s mentioned in the title but also not in the title but just in the posts. How about a setting to just get the ones she’s in the title.

Tried it using Advanced search and it seemed to focus more on the word ‘Valerie’ and not both names combined. And the results were all over the place date wise, not in reverse chronological order.

If ya put it like this "Valerie Bertinelli" it finds that whole term.. (In Quotes)

I had 2 pages of results and her full name in every thread title :)

Searching the entire posts for Valerie Bertinelli brings up 1,168 threads and 2,975 posts. There are 170 threads when you search titles only. There are more when you search just for Valerie.
