It's Official: Lindsay Lohan to Play Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime Biopic
4/23/2012
by Lesley Goldberg

It's official: Lindsay Lohan will play Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime's upcoming biopic.

The female-skewing cable network said Monday that the actress will play the icon in Liz & Dick, the TV film based on Taylor's romance with Richard Burton.

Production will begin in early June in Los Angeles.

"I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor," Lohan said.

"She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role."

Rumors of Lohan's casting first surfaced in January, with the troubled actress in talks to play Taylor in the project, which has been in development at Lifetime since May.

Independent producer Larry Thompson, who worked with the cable channel on its record-breaking 2010 telepic Amish Grace, is overseeing the project.

"We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Lifetime executive vp programming Rob Sharenow said.

"She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon."

The casting marks the latest in Lohan's comeback and comes after she hosted "SNL" to mixed reviews. The former tween star also has an upcoming guest appearance on Fox's "Glee", playing a heightened version of herself in a judge at the musical dramedy's Nationals competition.

Her recent film credits include Machete, I Know Who Killed Me and Georgia Rule.

I admit that Lindsay Lohan is a good actress, and in those pictures I can see a slight resemblance. But it just seems strange to know that she's going to play such an iconic actress.

Lindsay Lohan appears to be a natural to play Elizabeth Taylor if the first official image from her upcoming Lifetime TV movie is any indication.

The female skewing cable network on Monday released the image of Lohan as Taylor and "True Blood's" Grant Bowler as Richard Burton from the upcoming telepic Liz & Dick.

Production on the effort, which will chronicle Taylor and Burton's romance -- often dubed the "marriage of the century" for its ups and downs and coverage in the tabloids -- started Monday in Los Angeles.

Liz & Dick debuts later this year on Lifetime.

by Lesley Goldberg

Now this is Elizabeth Taylor.

Lifetime has released three new photos from its upcoming Taylor-Richard Burton TV movie starring Lindsay Lohan as the Hollywood icon.

The new images represent the first actual episodic taste of Liz & Dick, the telepic that chronicles Taylor and Burton's "marriage of the century" and depict Lohan in familiar territory -- dodging paparazzi.

In addition, Lohan steps in to Taylor's famed role as Cleopatra, while in another she co-star Grant Bowler have what appears to be a very clear chemistry, sharing an intimate moment.

Lifetime's Liz & Dick premieres in the fall.

Lifetime's Liz & Dick Poster Touts 'Controversial' Lindsay Lohan
9/19/2012
by Lesley Goldberg

The official key art for Lifetime's Liz & Dick telepic has arrived and it could also be promoting star Lindsay Lohan's personal life.

The poster for the female-skewing cable network's TV movie about Elizabeth Taylor and Grant Bowler's "marriage of the century" features Lohan in a typical Taylor-like pose on equal footing with bold phrases that describe both the Hollywood icon's famed life as well as the that of its young star.

"Scandal," "child star," "provocative," "controversial" and more share space with the pic's star, who has had a checkered past that also saw its star involved in a fender-bender and health scare during production.

"Liz & Dick" will premiere in November on Lifetime.

Just wanted to see if anyone else watched this yet.

The film has been pretty much blasted by all mainstream critics.

I really did not see Liz Taylor at all in Lohan's performance. Bowler was good at Burton however, and what really kept it interesting was the story.

Liz & Dick Draws 3.5 Million Viewers to Lifetime
11/26/2012
by Michael O'Connell

America tuned in for Liz & Dick -- though not like it did for Steel Magnolias last month.

The Lifetime original movie, starring Lindsay Lohan and Grant Bowler as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, pulled in 3.5 million viewers during its inaugural airing Sunday night. That's 3 million shy of Magnolias, which was the network's third-most-watched broadcast in history with 6.5 million.

Liz & Dick's premiere capped off months of buzz around Lohan ending her career hiatus with a portrayal of the iconic actress -- and, most recently, the largely negative reviews that kept the TV movie in headlines.

That 3.5 million average makes Liz & Dick the network's fourth-most-watched original movie of the year. The two-hour telepic ranks behind Magnolias, the Jan. 21 premiere of Drew Peterson: Untouchable (5.8 million viewers) and Abducted: The Carlina White Story (4.1 million).

Liz & Dick raked in 1.3 million adults 25-54, 1.3 million adults 18-49, and 1.1 million and 1 million in Lifetime's target demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54 groups, respectively.

Given all of the media attention on the project, the figure for Liz & Dick might fall shy of expectations but comes toward the end of what has been an exceptional ratings year for Lifetime.

Steel Magnolias, an adaptation of the 1989 feature starring an all-black cast, scored record returns. And Drew Peterson, starring Kaley Cuoco and Rob Lowe, opened 2012 with a two-year ratings high for the women-targeted network.

IMO Maybe the movie wasn't the reason it did far less than Magnolias. Maybe it was the star who was the reason. I don't know about anyone else, but I am so sick of Lohan and her problems, that never get resolved, that when I think of her, I want to puke. Just Sayin

Perhaps...

also, Lohan's main fanbase is all fairly young and they actually may not be all that familiar with Elizabeth Taylor.

well i just watched it - it was just too slow paced for me, i found it pretty boring.

Lindsey didn't really strike me as Elizabeth Taylor, it just seemed like a Lindsay Lohan movie; i had to keep reminding myself that this was supposed to be Elizabeth Taylor i'm watching

I have zero interest in it, but I can't believe anyone going in would expect Lohan to give a believable performance, and to not watch it for anything more than to make fun of it.

I haven't seen it, but both Lindsay and the movie itself were just skewered by the critics!!!

Did anyone see the recent Lindsey Lohan movie with her playing Elizabeth Taylor? How did it do in the ratings?

Am I the only one who liked it? I did not think it was bad and it was what it was, a Lifetime TV movie. If nothing else, there was not enough drama, bottle throwing, drunkeness and debauchery.

Those are the questions.

I did not watch the movie, but here are the ratings:

3.51 million viewers
1.0 demographic

Fourth highest rated cable movie of the year, behind Steel Magnolias, Drew Peterson: Untouchable, and The Carlina White Story.

OK fine, then I'll do it!!!

When I think of "Liz and Dick" (the real ones!) I think of "The Beverly Hillbillies". In one of my favourite episodes "Granny Learns To Drive" the legendary Mel Blanc plays a cab driver who tries to convince Jed that his name is really Richard Burton and his wife's name is Elizabeth. The resulting dialogue is a lot funnier than anything Lindsay Lohan has ever done in her career:

Jed Clampett:

"Do you know there's another Liz and Dick Burton? They run a feed store back home. They've been running it for over 40 years. Back home, whenever anyone thinks of hogwash, they just naturally think of Liz and Dick!"

CLASSIC!!!!

My favorite line in the whole series!
