My dad said in the 50s when he was a teen and adult he doesn't remember seeing anyone dress like that (lived in New Jersey, still does). It doesn't have to be the 50s, The Fonz and the resurgence of rockabilly in the 70s and 80s brought a lot of those styles back, I want to know if someone saw those people in the 50s-early 60s the most.

I have to agree. I spoke to a lot of people who grew up in the 50s and early 60s and no one I know said they wore a biker leather jacket, looked like a greaser except on TV or Hollywood like James Dean or Marlon Brando. Now a lot guys were into hot rods and cars, that part is true, but actual leather jackets like seen in the movies was never a part of actual real life. At least from the stories I have heard, and the photos I've seen. They do make it look fun to live back then when things were simpler, although you have other problems such as equality = race,religion,sex discrimination etc...

Although Wikipedia says Greasers were common but I guess I suppose it depends on where you lived?

Yeah there were probably a lot of greasers, just not a lot as far as you saw somebody look like that every time you went out. It's like the punk style, I've seen a few people have that style, not often.

I guess today, it's tatoo's and body/facial piercing. None of that stuff appeals to me. I actually like being clean cut, and now it makes me stand out because everyone else is all inked up.

Yeh, my late brother in law. He was a real greaser right out of the 50s. He wore a leather jacket, but drove a 1934 Ford coup. He looked more like John Milner though from American Graffiti.
