Australian musician/actor/comedian Tim Minchin has landed a major recurring role on the next season of Showtime’s dark comedy series Californication. He will play Atticus Fetch — Bowie, Bono and Lennon all rolled up into one charming yet mad-as-a-hatter rock star. He has been drafted to write the music for the Broadway musical, A Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which is based on the hit romantic comedy of the same name adapted from Hank Moody’s (David Duchovny) breakthrough novel God Hates Us All. Atticus tries to enlist Hank Moody to pen the book for the musical, promising him that together they will turn it into a “rock opera” about “love conquering all.” The role is a case of art imitating life for Minchin who wrote Matilda: The Musical, based on Roald Dahl’s novel, which has been staged in London’s West End and is coming to Broadway in 2014. He has toured in the UK (including at the O2), Australia (including at the Sydney Opera House) and in North America. Minchin also has done work as a stage actor.
