View Full Version : Antenna TV versus Me-TV, what channel do you prefer?
LUNCH 04-19-2012, 12:19 PM For those of you that get both of these channels, which one do you prefer? Or do you like them both equally? I can not answer my own question because I still only get Antenna TV. However I think Antenna TV is great and from looking at the line-up of Me-TV, they also seem very good.
steevo 04-19-2012, 12:55 PM I get both, but have no preference. I like both of them, they both have great shows (Mary Tyler Moore, WKRP -which I am recording, Too Close For Comfort, The Big Valley, Dick Van Dyke, and Alfred Hitchcock, among many others). They are both what TV Land used to be.
MRPITT 04-19-2012, 02:49 PM I can't say I prefer one over the other, I like them both though If I had to choose I'd probably say Antenna T.V..
BigManMike 04-19-2012, 04:24 PM I like both of them although my favorite would have to be Antenna TV. It has a better schedule and more of what I like. I like some shows on MeTV too, but it doesn't have as good of a schedule and the shows I like are not on as much. I'll compare and contrast what I like on each of them below.
Shows I watch on Antenna TV:
All in the Family
Dennis the Menace
Good Times
Maude
The Monkees
The Nanny
The Partridge Family
The Ropers
Sanford and Son
Soap
Three's A Crowd
Three's Company
Too Close for Comfort
WKRP in Cincinnati
Shows I watch on MeTV:
The Brady Bunch
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Get Smart
Happy Days
I Love Lucy
Laverne and Shirley
Shows I want to see that would best fit Antenna TV:
227
Archie Bunker's Place
Diff'rent Strokes
The Facts of Life
The Jeffersons
One Day at a Time
Who's the Boss?
Shows I want to see that would best fit MeTV:
The Andy Griffith Show
Family Ties
Green Acres
Shows I want to see that might work on either station:
Gilligan's Island
As you can see, there are lot more shows I like and want to see on Antenna TV then there are on MeTV. But both of them are still great stations.
Is it just me, or does MeTV have the better video quality of the two? Maybe it's just my local Antenna TV affiliate, but everything on that network looks subpar, like they're using beat-up old prints. MeTV, on the other hand, seems like they use the best remasters of all their shows.
catlover79 04-19-2012, 11:10 PM Brad, my Antenna TV affiliate in Cleveland is the same with the visual quality as well. Back to the original question, I like both but I'll give the edge to Me-TV because they do all those clever promos. :D
TVFactFan 04-19-2012, 11:19 PM For those of you that get both of these channels, which one do you prefer? Or do you like them both equally? I can not answer my own question because I still only get Antenna TV. However I think Antenna TV is great and from looking at the line-up of Me-TV, they also seem very good.
I give the edge to Antenna TV because they have the better before 8pm and after 12midnight schedule.
On the Otherhand, Me-TV's 8pm to 11pm is the better schedule

Maybe it's just my local Antenna TV affiliate, but everything on that network looks subpar, like they're using beat-up old prints. MeTV, on the other hand, seems like they use the best remasters of all their shows.
Yes, Me-TV quality is better than Hallmark's too. Bob Newhart was so much clearer on Me-TV than it was on Hallmark.
magglio 04-27-2012, 02:03 PM Bob Newhart has pretty good quality on Family Net, also.
Tubehead 04-27-2012, 10:52 PM I ikeme tvthe best.i don'tcareto much for Antenna TV much.i also likethe hub a lot. the hub ismy favorite ahnnel ifi had topick i pickmetv plusethey been showing the hony mooners on me tv.

KJH278 04-28-2012, 04:18 PM Antenna TV (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?p=4674650#post4674650) because my local me-tv alfilate shows mostly infercrap commericals
treky 04-30-2012, 12:38 AM I like them both equally.
sabrelucynut 04-30-2012, 01:16 AM There are shows on both that I watch so I can't pick one. however, I have had problems with Too Close for Comfort and The Burns and Allen Show with Antenna having a weak signal. I don't know if it because they are on at night or what.
brettfan 09-06-2012, 01:19 PM While there are similarities between the two channels, they have some big differences. My area got both channels in August 2011.
I would say that aside from the obvious difference that both channels play and have rights to different shows; the biggest difference is that Antenna runs movies mornings and really doesn't do many dramas while Me-Tv does a whole lot of dramas and a special Sunday night block called The Sunday Night Noir.
So of the the two and both have good things I would pick Me-tv barely due to playing dramas I like. But Antenna has some good sitcoms. So they balance each other out. And the schedules change every quarter.
I like on Antenna Tv as of this writing because schedules and shows change over time:
Dragnet
All In The Family
Three's Company
Sanford & Sons
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
The Monkees
McHale's Navy
Benny Hill
It Takes a Thief
WKRP in Cincinnati
Good Times/Maude
Leave It to Beaver
Hazel
I was sorry to see Too Close For Comfort go because it took me a long time to get into it and understand the plot of the entire show since I joined into the show when Antenna was playing the final seasons. I probably did not see all of the episodes or seasons.
I like on Me Tv:
The Fugitive
Peter Gunn
Twilight Zone
Route 66
The Honeymooners
I Love Lucy
Beverly Hillbillies
Petticoat Junction/ Green Acres
Hawaii Five-O
Mary Tyler Moore
Dick Van Dyke
Bob Newhart
Emergency
Kojak
Cheers
Perry Mason
Two shows I am sorry to see go are The Untouchables and they had Streets Of San Francisco a year ago.
Retro76 09-06-2012, 01:55 PM Love both equally but I have them beat with series I already own on DVD like Good Times, Brady Bunch, and That Girl. IMO, it would be nice is Antenna TV would get a deal with CBS/Paramount like they share the NBC/Universal library and 20th Century Fox, thanks to WKRP.

One difference is ME-TV sticks to their original schedule on friday nights while Antenna TV switches up and airs something different
biffbronson 09-07-2012, 10:33 AM Two shows I am sorry to see go are The Untouchables and they had Streets Of San Francisco a year ago.
Me-TV showed a glimpse of The Streets of San Francisco in a promo for their special new Sunday programming this fall, where it's pretty much unexpected what will show up -- like marathon sessions of certain shows, other series that they don't currently air, etc. So definitely Sunday is a day to keep an eye on for Me... ! I've never seen Burke's Law (Gene Barry) and really want to watch that.

I never saw Burke's Law either and I'm looking forward to that.
Becca3557 09-10-2012, 08:22 PM I like Antenna TV a lot. But the schedule charges drive me a little crazy. I watch Leave it To Beaver, Dragnet, Adam-12, Bachelor Father and Father Knows Best, but I like pretty much like all of the programming.
I watch This-TV in the am while getting ready for work -- Patty Duke and Mr. Ed. :)
No ME-TV for us yet; I have FIOS in southeastern PA. It is on Comcast though. I have hopes we will get it soon! Lots of shows on there that I enjoy!

You must be a fan of shows from the 50's and 60's
ComedyGuy 09-11-2012, 09:15 PM Well when I had cable TV I had both channels and I enjoyed both of them equally.
tvfreak1987 09-12-2012, 03:50 AM I'll have to say Me-TV because that's the only one of the 2 I can get. But what I've seen of Antenna TV I really liked. I'd probably still give the edge to Me-TV, but I really want Antenna TV, too. Though if I had both I'd probably end up becoming a hermit LOL.

Antenna TV is definitely creative during their marathons which is the way they provide trivia during commercial breaks. That's what they are doing now for Maude
gilligan fanatic 09-12-2012, 07:19 PM Antenna TV as I don't get ME TV
tvfreak1987 09-18-2012, 10:54 PM Antenna TV is definitely creative during their marathons which is the way they provide trivia during commercial breaks. That's what they are doing now for Maude
Me-TV started doing that as well during Sunday Showcase.
treky 09-18-2012, 11:46 PM ME TV, but the only reason I say that is because of the movies on ANTENNA TV
TVFactFan 09-19-2012, 05:40 PM Outside of channels showing football (and other sports), Antenna TV and Me-TV are the two channels I watch most.
I would give Me-TV an edge due to more variety and less movies.
I also give Me-TV an edge in their primetime schedule.
I may be in the minority, but in my opinion, weeknights of Remington Steele, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Cheers, and The Bob Newhart Show is about as good as it gets - five of my all time favorites!
Me-TV gets a edge in
Their Friday schedule
Their Quality of episodes
Not sure what's up with the Quality of Antenna TV's eps
yankeesfan82 09-30-2012, 11:45 PM Antenna TV. There's more shows I watch on it. There may be some more shows on ME-TV that I would be interested in watching, but WZME/43 in Seymour/Bridgeport/NYC carries infomercials 6AM-9AM and 10PM-2AM. And on Saturdays and Sundays WZME shows ME-TV 2PM-10PM and 2AM-5AM only.
Wish a Hartford station would pick up ME-TV. Here's what channels we have in Hartford:
WFSB 3 CBS Hartford Merideth
3.1 WFSB
3.2 CBS 3 Springfield (simulcasts WSHM-LD/21 Springfield, Mass)
3.3 Eyewitness News Nows

LUNCH 10-01-2012, 01:53 PM Now that Me-TV has come to town,I also am able to compare the two channels.I like them both equally.Whether I choose to watch Me or Antenna TV really comes down to what program their playing at the time I want to watch. Both are superb channels.
storrs19 10-05-2012, 12:02 PM Here in Louisville, Kentucky Me-TV now gets interrupted for two hours of local news from 7am to 9am and another hour from 10pm to 11pm. Just what I need, more flipping news. God I'm sick of news
That being the case I have to say I still prefer Me-TV because they don't show all the movies that Antenna TV does.

The only thing ME-TV has over Antenna TV is that their schedule stays the same on Friday nights
Crusinforabrusin 02-16-2016, 09:44 AM Both channels are great, but I'll give the edge to Antenna Tv. Antenna Tv airs sitcoms which I'm a fan of. I'm not big on crime dramas so that's also a plus.
On the other hand, METv is still good too. They have shows I like like : Bonanza, The Big Valley,hAppy Days, Perry Mason, The Beverly Hillbillies, etc..
Metvs lineup seems to put a heavy focus on crime dramas and westerns. I prefer sitcoms more, so that's why I like Antenna Tv more

RetrovisionPrince 02-17-2016, 07:56 AM since my local stations have never picked up Antenna TV around my way I chose METV but not just because I don't get Antenna TV but because of good programs like
Have Gun Will Travel
The Rebel
Gunsmoke (both black & white episodes & color episodes but i prefer the black & white episodes more)
Bonanza (the lost episodes because the 260 episode packages got boring)
Twilight Zone
Mary Tyler Moore
The Honeymooners
Bob Newhart Show
The Mystery Movies
The Incricible Hulk
The Odd Couple
Lost In Space
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
and More
We may not get Antenna TV over hear but METV and it's sister stations Decades has me satisfied
Crusinforabrusin 02-17-2016, 08:12 AM Decades sucks. Each day, they play the same shows over and over again. It gets old real quick
tvfreak1987 02-18-2016, 03:16 AM Since Antenna TV has come to my area since the first time I posted in this thread, I can actually say which one I like better. Honestly, it's a toss-up. I probably still give an ever so slight edge to Me-TV for their Sunday lineup alone, but the addition of Johnny Carson on Antenna is what makes it close.
Nordy 02-21-2016, 12:14 AM I think I watch more MeTV. I started watching cop shows more. Like Columbo, Kojak and McMillian and Wife. Antenna TV I like to watch Carson and Green Acres.
AntennaTv, supplying all your Barbara Cooper needs since 2015[TM], so that one.
TVFactFan 02-21-2016, 12:55 AM Me-TV has Welcome Back Kotter on at 4am in the morning:confused:
Bonniegirl 02-21-2016, 01:38 AM There are shows that I like on both channels! I go back and forth! I have Petticoat Junction on at 7:30 on METV ,than I switch over to Leave it to Beaver at 8:00! Than back to METV for Perry Mason, than Antenna for Green Acres ! (But now they put Diagnosis murder on at the same time as Green Acres, so depending on my mood) Well, I could go on and on but you get the point!! LOL!!! And I watch ID crime channel too! ;)
But as for Antenna or METV? IDK? One thing I like better about METV is the promos! Antenna doesn't have the actors themselves come on to promote the shows!! (Watch me on ME)! It's cool seeing them as they are today after so many years!:) ;)
Shows I currently like and watch!
METV
Petticoat Junction, Perry Mason, Diagnosis Murder, Chips, Mama's family, Laverne and Shirley, Brady Bunch, I love Lucy, Love Boat
Antenna
Leave it to Beaver, Green Acres, One day at a time, Mork and Mindy, Sanford and son, Good Times, Sabrina the teenage witch, Doogie Howser

Antenna-TV has the better Saturday Prime-time and Me-tv has the better Sunday Prime-time schedule
Bonniegirl 02-21-2016, 01:50 AM Antenna-TV has the better Saturday Prime-time and Me-tv has the better Sunday Prime-time schedule
Yeah METV is pretty s*cky on Saturday! And it's cool on Sunday! ;)
storrs19 02-22-2016, 02:04 AM I watch Me-TV more than Antenna TV. Both have good programming but I tend to watch more shows on Me-TV. I also watch Get-TV, Laff and Decades quite a bit
mets82 02-22-2016, 04:07 PM I dont have ME-TV but for me, it would be a toss up. Both channels have great programming. It just depends on what time there on for me.

You know it =)
sandmountainslim 08-07-2016, 06:27 PM Time to update this topic. What's your favorite in 2016?? I lean toward the powerhouse lineup of Sanford and Son, Good Times and Jeffersons early in the evening but on weekends. I go more for MeTV and Gilligan, Love Boat , Laverne and Shirley and I love watching Columbo on Sunday nights. My major gripe with MeTV is their belief that anyone enjoys Hogan's Heroes :)
tlc38tlc38 08-07-2016, 06:34 PM My favorite is Sunday nights on Antenna TV.
Evening Shade
Newhart
Family Ties
Three's Company
The Jeffersons
If only they'd get rid of Johnny Carson & Webster on Sunday nights.

Svenfan1234 08-07-2016, 06:45 PM I also love watching Johnny Carson. I can't wait till Antenna adds "Alice". Hopefully they'll give it a good timeslot.

tlc38tlc38 08-08-2016, 12:09 AM I made a list of the shows from both stations that are my favorites and that I'd likely watch when they air. By looking at this list, I'd still say Antenna TV is the best but I also like MeTV because they have "Mama's Family" & "Petticoat Junction".

I like both equally
AMackII 08-28-2016, 06:28 AM I exactly prefer both of them
TVFactFan 08-28-2016, 12:09 PM Both channels are dog sh*t on the weekends
VisualSensation 08-29-2016, 09:26 PM After watching Metv and AntennaTV for years, I've gotten sick of everything on both networks, except for love boat on METV on Sundays, which they are finally showing the later seasons of. Otherwise I've switched to shows on CoziTV (Highway to heaven),Laff (Drew carey show, empty nest) and GetTV (Airwolf, Nanny and the Prof, Ghost and Mrs. Muir)
I like them both equally because they both have some good shows on them that I like. The difference that I see is that Antenna TV has their best shows on during the late morning and early afternoon period while MeTV has their best lineup during prime time and the early morning hours.
What this means for me is if I had the chance to live in an area where I could see both channels, I would split the schedule equally between them and watch them this way:
Weekdays
Mornings 7:00 AM to noon - ANTENNA TV
Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie, Green Acres, Hazel, McHale's Navy
Afternoons - 12 to 7 pm - Antenna TV
Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, One Day At A Time, Three's Company, Family Ties, Maude, Sanford and Son
Evenings - 7 pm to 10:30 pm - MeTV
Andy Griffith, Happy Days, Gilligan's Island, Hogan's Heroes, Carol Burnett
10:30 pm to 4 am - Bedtime break - Time for MeTV Music! (http://www.metv.com/music/)
Early mornings - 4 to 7 am - MeTV
Our Miss Brooks, Donna Reed, Mr Ed, I Love Lucy, Brady Bunch, Petticoat Junction
Saturdays - All Day except 9am to noon - Antenna TV (No contest!!) :)
Sundays
Mornings - 7 am to 1 pm - Antenna TV
Gidget, My Mother The Car, It's About Time, Addams Family, Monkees, Partridge Family
Afternoons - 1 to 8 pm - MeTV
Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, I Love Lucy, The Love Boat, Andy Griffith
(Between 11 am and 4 pm, 5 of my top 6 favourite sitcoms ever---excluding Leave It To Beaver---are on both stations, which makes scheduling very difficult, especially during the lunch hour)
Evenings - 8 pm to 12 am - Antenna TV
Family Ties, Newhart, Johnny Carson, Three's Company
Late night and early morning - 12 to 7 am - MeTV
Mary Tyler Moore, Taxi, Get Smart, Sledge Hammer, Bob Newhart, Dobie Gillis, Car 54, Phil Silvers, Our Miss Brooks, Donna Reed, Family Affair
When you take both channels and combine each of their schedules to make a lineup like mine, you really do get the best of both worlds!
Coffeecup 09-08-2016, 08:49 PM Both channels are dog sh*t on the weekends

TVFactFan 09-08-2016, 11:03 PM Svenfan likes every sitcom that was ever made:lol:
AceWesternson 09-09-2016, 12:48 AM I like them both equally because they both have some good shows on them that I like.
I didn't even know ME TV has a online streaming radio station :)
Svenfan1234 09-09-2016, 05:37 PM TVFactFan needs to leave this website and be his stupid, demented self on those seedy dating sites he belongs to. Seriously.
I didn't even know ME TV has a online streaming radio station :)
They do have their own radio station out of Chicago which is at 87.7 FM. This week, they opened up the station's entire playlist and offered it online. Go to the link below and you'll see a page which has a separate pop-up player where you can listen to different songs from the 60s to the 80s from all the popular stars of that era. They even throw in a few classic TV themes for good measure. The best part is you can skip the songs you don't like and there is no limit to what you can or can't listen to. Give it a try now.
