View Full Version : Does anybody still watch RTV?

I'm just wondering if this network has any sizable audience left. It's quite obvious they've taken a huge dive while MeTV and AntennaTV keeping racking up the affiliates, continually adding different shows, having marathons, and generally making news that keeps them on the radar. RTV on the other hand hasn't been in the news since last fall when their lineup went from bad to worse. Since then they've lost more affiliates and now the channel seems relegated to the depths of obscurity on low-power stations. Do any of you still watch RTV (or even have the desire to watch if you lost coverage in your area)?

Their schedule change to include bad '90's A&E "report" exploitation shows and even worse '90's "drama" series and continuing to show the same set of episodes (skipping always the same missing episodes) of great vintage TV shows, playing these same series to death never adding any new old TV series (unless it's a public domain show like Bev. Hillbillies or Ozzie & Harriet) keeps this channel in the pits. I am still watching their pub. domain episodes of Ozzie & Harriet, but everything else they show I've either already recorded long ago or have no interest in. They need to REVAMP their program schedule with all "new" OLD TV shows. Hawaiian Eye, Love That Bob, 77 Sunset Strip, Maverick, Great Gildersleeve, Oh Susanna, come immediately to mind as great additions. But I won't hold my breath, I have a feeling RTV's owners don't give a rat's behind what they put on now. Looks like another once great station is now purposely committing suicide just as the once great and now sadly lamented fate of TV Land. Great promises when they both started, but after a couple years they both resorted to the lowest common denominator type of programming and started showing "new" '80's and '90's shows, the very shows you once went to these vintage TV stations to escape from. When Roseanne showed up on Nick at Nite, and all the great '50's and '60's shows disappeared from TV Land, I knew it was all over.

Thank goodness for Antenna TV & I only wish I had Me-TV in my area.

I'm not able to pick up RTV anymore, but when I was able to get the station I found we hardly viewed it once we got Antenna TV.Since RTV went downhill so far I do not really miss the station although they still have a couple of programs worth watching in their line-up.

I never really watched it to begin with. There was never anything on there that I liked. I read at one time it had some CBS Paramount shows, like Andy Griffith, Brady Bunch, Family Ties, Get Smart, Happy Days, and Laverne and Shirley, but Memphis didn't get RTV until December 2008, and by that time, all those shows were gone. MeTV replaced it in November 2011 and I'm glad it did because MeTV has some of those shows and a few others that like, although I like Antenna TV the best. I don't miss RTV and I don't really care to see it again.

I watch the occasional Route 66 or Naked City. What needs to happen is for Me-TV or Antenna TV to outright buy RTV and therefore give themselves expansion. In my case, since I don't ATV, I would favor them buying RTV and expanding into our market.

I dont even know if RTV is on is most affilates now because it seems like they just keep losing affilates instead of adding them. What I would do if I was in charge is that I would do my best to pick up some shows and have them bookend the channel. In other words, they can have the schedule they have now but have some better programs to bookend the channel.

How about Growing Pains, Gimme a Break, The Lucy Show, The Mod Squad, The Untouchables, Abbott and Costello Show, The Farmer's Daughter etc.? I dont think I've ever watched some of these shows but still if you give the channel some eyeballs which would be important.

They do run some shows that I NEVER thought would see the light of day again in reruns......like "Norm Crosby's The Comedy Shop", "The Campbells" and "The New Zorro". If they air gonna air old CBN/Family Channel product, they might as well add "Big Brother Jake", "Maniac Mansion", "Rin Tin Tin K-9 Cop" etc to the mix.

I've enjoyed watching the Soupy Sales show on Sundays.

My husband and I watch it occasionally. Not any one particular show, though.
