After they stopped making each of these shows, both of them used to be ALWAYS shown on television in re-runs.For the past number of years these two classics have literally been taken off the air in America.Whether you like these shows or not, they were among the most successful shows ever in re-runs.I know TV has become a joke for the most part, but it still is rather surprising these two shows are not aired anymore.

My ABC affiliate showed both shows back-to-back every weeknight in the '80s; The Flintstones at 3, and Gilligan's Island at 3:30 (before it was replaced by first-run episodes of The Jetsons), anyway).

It was appointment viewing when I got home from school in the first and second grade.

I remember in my youth when I could watch Gilligan's Island three times a day! the local CBS, the local NBC and another NBC from the central part of my state (which we could still catch). Shocking today that no one at all airs the reruns.

For less than it costs for one month of Cable TV you can easily have BOTH series on DVD. :D Pick em up and enjoy them whenever you want, WITHOUT any Interruptions!

I was able to get all 6 seasons of The Flintstones at Big Lots for $3.00 each when they had that Warner Brothers sale almost 3 years ago.

I remember that sale. The only Series I was able to purchase was Pebbles and Bam Bam, since I had all the others they had on sale. :( I read Warner Brothers was UPSET by that sale, they had sold a HUGE lot of what they considered "Surplus" DVDs to a Group figuring they were going to DISPOSE (Read Destroy) of the Disks, instead they sold them to Big Lots for a Profit. I heard Warner Brothers filed suit against that group. but I never heard of the outcome.

The Flintstones have never left TV, they've just been on a channel not a lot of people get.

I used to work for Blockhead Video....and I remember all the times we got notices to destroy certain DVDs rather than sell them as used. It never made any sense.

It's a shame that Warner Bros. has been pretty much squandering all of their cartoon properties. Sure, most of it is on DVD, but cartoons from their extensive library are either not airing anywhere, or they're on Boomerang, a channel not a lot of people have.

Making classic Warner Bros./Hanna-Barbera/MGM cartoons exclusive to Cartoon Network/Boomerang was a terrible move. It really wouldn't hurt Time Warner if the 'toons were made available in syndication again.

^ I wish Me-TV or Antenna TV would make a deal for classic HB or WB cartoons--they would capture a market not being served at all.

Jude, I've been thinking the same thing! Could you imagine the killer Saturday and Sunday lineups either of those two networks could put together if Warner Bros., Disney; etc. were a little bit less territorial?

Eggs Zack Lee, Brad :D I mean kids for the past generation or so do not know the classic Disney shorts of Mickey, Donald, etc....all they know is that CGI stuff that Disney churns out. it's getting soon to be the same with the classic Bugs, Daffy, etc.

What does Me-TV pick up? the same stuff already being reran on RTV and its sister channels.

Gilligan's Island is on Me Too in Chicago. I just wish MeTV or Antenna TV would pick it up so I can see it. I've thought about getting the DVDs but I can't seem to find them anywhere at a reasonable price. I can't find any of them for less than $25. I don't know why this show is so expensive. I've seen complete series sets of Good Times and Sanford and Son for only $40 and those shows had six seasons each, but Gilligan's Island only had 3 and all the complete series sets of it I've seen are over $100. That is ridiculous.

And of course the new CGI stuff is junk. And the same goes for all the newer remakes, or whatever they are of the Warner Bros. etc. cartoons.Even the animation on the newer stuff is bad.--I don't understand these TV channels and the companies running them. They must be spending a lot of money to make these newer cartoons,a lot more than it would cost to run the classic cartoons.Yet,they do not do the sensible thing and just show the old classics which are 1000 times better.

While I long for the classics of yesterday, I don't subscribe to the notion that everything about TV today is garbage. I swear, some people who post here might as well stock up on the prune juice so they don't have any distractions while they're trying to yell at all the damn kids who play on their lawns during naptime. Yes, there are some aspects of television from the past that I'd love to have back (fewer commercials/longer shows, no on-screen bugs, a more open embrace of the "classics;" etc.).

Even so, I think TV is great today. Not only do we have high-definition, but I believe many of the the best shows of all time are being made today. As far as classic cartoons go, I'm really not sure which current ones you're being exposed to, but there are some rather brilliant kids' shows in production today, including Phineas and Ferb and The Looney Tunes Show. Yes, there's a lot of crap being made, too, but the same can be said of any era.

For every memorable gem Hanna-Barbera made, they had about ten or fifteen stinkers on their hands. And if you want to talk bad animation, I can show you most Hanna-Barbera, Filmation or even DePatie-Freleng cartoons made for television in the '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s (even the more beloved properties, like The Flintstones and The Yogi Bear Show had terrible animation). Hell, the Warner Bros.-Seven Arts theatrical Looney Tunes shorts of the '60s were far worse than just about anything being made in 2012. Here's 'Exhibit A':
