Perhaps a controversial question to a controversial episode, but I'll ask anyway. Whenever Maude is mentioned, the first and sometimes only thing mentioned is the infamous Abortion episode. If that episode was never done, how would Maude be remembered today? Or would it?

I think so because it was still connected to All in the Family.

I thought that, but why is the abortion episode the main thing, sometimes the ONLY thing remembered about it?

Probably because it provided shock value at that time

It still does, if it is still being talked about today.

Talked about by who? The people on this board?

It's still talked about because Maude actually went through with it. Abortion has become such an inflammatory issue, most network prime time sitcom writers/producers are afraid to even mention it, let alone have a main character have one.

Actually, the abortion episode, controversy aside is one of the series' weakest episodes, yet it's the one most people talk about. I wouldn't place it anywhere near the Top 20.

Yeah I think it was just controversial not on the level of entertaining.
