Hi guys,

About 10 years ago I saw a super scary and unsettling Unsolved Mysteries episode, but I can't remember the names of the people involved, or what season it was from (I saw it on Lifetime, so they were constantly being mixed up).

The segment was about a (african american, if memory serves correct) hitchhiker who was picked up by a nice family who lived out in the woods. The hitchhiker was allowed to stay with the family, and worked odd jobs for a while.

However, things started souring and the hitchhiker somehow exerted some kind of mind control on the mother and father in the house. The hitchhiker then forced the parents to sleep in the basement, and he took over the house.

Towards the end, I believe he made the father kill the mother, and then went after the son/daughter. The son/daughter was able to escape, and brought the authorities to his house, only to find the whole scene was cleaned up and there was no evidence of the hitchhiker anymore.

Does this episode ring a bell to anyone? I remember it being from the "later" seasons, but I remember Robert Stack being the voice over.

Can anyone help me find this episode? I remember it being so great!

Hi Tyler. I think you might be talking about the case of Tim Good. I don't know what episode it was but I remember that case well. I'm sure you can google and find it. :)

Yep, it appears that you're thinking of the Tim Good/"Dave Freeman" case: http://unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Tim_Good

I don't think this is Tim Good. Unless the OP was mistaken in the fact that a couple was forced to live in the basement. Tim Good was single.

Yeah, I think the OP was just fuzzy a bit on the memory of the story. Tim Good was single but the murderer ended up moving HIS family in did he not? With the OP's mention of the "mind control" I immediately thought of this case. Guess we'll find out from the OP whether we are on the right track. :)

Yes! That's the one -- my memory was just fuzzy. I have to say, I remember that segment being a bit more terrifying when I first saw it, but it is still very unsettling. Does anyone know what happened to Freeman?

Also thanks for helping me figure the riddle out!!

He was arrested and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

"Dave Freeman" was really William Cooper. He was caught and convicted. I believe he was convicted of only manslaughter, served a few years and has already been released.
