I just accidentally ran across a video on you tube of a John Wayne interview and the background of Wayne's location looks very familiar. Look and see if this is the place where the opening credits of GI were filmed. Maybe it's not, but I was told once they were filmed in one of Orange County California's beach cities, and that's where John Wayne lived.

I am not exactly sure where the John Wayne clip was filmed but I can say his primary residence for many years was in Newport Beach CA while The Gilligans Island Opening is Filmed In Long Beach CA. The Harbor where the Gilligans Island opening was filmed is about 1 mile from the Orange County and Los Angeles County border.

So it was probably Seal Beach where the opening was filmed then.

No the opening is filmed in Alamitos Bay in Long Beach about a mile from Seal Beach. Seal Beach is in Orange County. Alamitos Bay is in L.A. County.

Ha Ha! You're right. I just looked it up on google maps. The scenery kinda looks the same. Of course there are some changes. Thanks.
