I'd volunteer creating the channel if you guys are interested, but I'd want it to be an official channel by the staff here so I'd like their approval and perhaps a sticky posting it somewhere
I'd really love a place to chat with people about sitcoms and I can't find any place otherwise

so I assume no one else here is interested in a chatroom dedicated to people who like to watch comedy television programs? It breaks my heart that I can not find a place to discuss such a topic outside of comment sections, I'd love to be able to watch shows real time with other members of the community
I'm just shocked how so many of my peers have no interest for tv and how most people who do watch TV mainly watch dramas and reality programming :( I feel so alone in this world, though at least I have my wife to participate in watching with me
It's not that no one wants to talk about sitcoms; it's that chat rooms are kind of an antiquated format. I haven't used IRC, or chat rooms in general, for at least twelve years.

The "chat room" boom has died with AOL but irc communities are especially strong for gaming and such. Everything is too segmented on a message board like this and you don't get the experience of watching something live with a group of people. I feel the opposite is true in my case where I frequent message boards much less and hang out on irc more frequently these days. I've had a long history of moderating a lot of message boards and hanging out in different irc communities though.
I also find it easier to make meaningful relationships over chat than forums, for example I met my wife on an AOL chat 15 years ago.
