Following reports that "Jersey Shore's" Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino had checked into rehab Tuesday, the MTV reality star chose to set the record straight on his own.

On Wednesday, he tweeted, "Don't believe everything you hear or read."

He later elaborated on his website.

"I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion. I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating from my work and appearance schedule. I appreciate my fans' support and love you guys."

In a statement, Sorrentino's rep declined to comment about the nature of his issues, but instead said the reality star "has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule."

The news comes just days after MTV announced the renewal of "Jersey Shore" for a sixth season, which is set to begin production this summer.

This guy is definately not one of my favorite people in the world, but for his sake, and his future health, I hope he isn't lured back to this show which encourages these young people to partake in alcohal and substance abuse all for television ratings! Shame on MTV and the creators of Jersey Shore.
