The Office will have a new behind-the-scenes boss next season as Paul Lieberstein is stepping down as executive producer-showrunner. He is expected to land a hand while he preps the potential spinoff series starring Rainn Wilson, The Farm, which he co-created, but search is under way for a new showrunner to take the reins of the veteran comedy series next season. Meanwhile, conversations with key Office cast members John Krasinski, Ed Helms, Jenna Fischer and B.J. Novak, who have no deals beyond this season, continue, though I hear that they have stalled for the moment. Locking in as many actors of the core quartet as possible is critical for the future of the series in light of the potential departures of Wilson, who would segue onto the spinoff series sometime next season, and Mindy Kaling, who has a pilot in the running at Fox. Additionally, this season’s addition James Spader recently announced that he will be leaving in May.

I have always thought that Toby was a secret stoner, because he (and the actor) always looks high on marijuana. Look at his eyes (they are red, sleepy and droopy), and his general demeanor.

On the show, I think it is breaking up and maybe this or next year will be the last season of the show. Ed Helms is and John Kaniski (Sic, dude that plays Jim) are going to be movie actors, and many of the others want to do other projects.

However Lieberstien has stated that he hopes the show can evolve with new characters which can take over when other leave. I dont think that would work, but other series had turnover in actors (MASH is one on top of my head) where actors came and were replaced.

I hope Rainn Wilson's show will be good. Personally, I think it is a stupid idea, but what do I know. What I would do is have Angela and Dwight get married, have Dwight be the father of the child (this would be an interesting dynamic) and do a Fawlty Towers like show.

Actually Sol, he was much more than that, he was also the showrunner and one of the creative minds behind the show.

Maybe they'll write Toby Flenderson off as going back to Costa Rico.

Michael and Toby were hilarious together! I liked when Michael would tell him "You're a waste of life...and you should just give up."

Why did Michael hate Toby so much?

Because Toby was not a subordinate of Michael and as HR could overrule the manager if the manager violates policy. It wasn't so much Michael hating Toby, it was Michael hating HR, and he initially treated Holly Flax the same way.

Yeah that's pretty much how HR was at my job. They are off to the side when it comes to company level and only report to the President
