Women were already being portrayed differently by the time Alice premiered in 1976. There was already 'That Girl' and 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show,' not to mention 'One Day At A Time.' So can Alice really be considered a groundbreaking or even important show in the Women's movement???

I don't know if I would call it groundbreaking, but 'Alice' had more of a working class feel to it than those other shows.

It was a little "grittier" than the other shows.
