Starz is giving "Magic City" a huge vote of confidence: The network has renewed the show for a 10-episode second season before it has even premiered.
Set in 1959 in Miami, the drama stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Ike Evans, a hotelier who gets into bed with mob boss Ben "The Butcher" Diamond (Danny Huston) to finance his dream of establishing the Miramar Playa Hotel.
"'Magic City' is a beautifully written, superbly acted, and visually stunning series, and we feel the quality of the work accomplished deserves a second season," Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement.
"It has already been sold in more than 70 territories worldwide, and represents the kind of premium entertainment the Starz brand is seeking to create."
Such a move is not unusual for Starz. It previously renewed "Spartacus" for second and third seasons, and "Boss" for a second season before their respective premieres.
Starz will air a sneak preview of "Magic City" following the season finale of "Sparatcus: Vengeance" on Friday, March 30. The show premieres Friday, April 6 at 10/9c.
