As Darren Franich points out, "For all the talk about how much more visually stimulating television has become in this era of HD, the medium is still fundamentally built on writing and good old non-digital human performance. Most good-looking TV shows make their relative cheapness a virtue."

i think the show would have been more successful as a big-event mini-series - if it worked ratings and dollar-wise, then they could bring it back for more

I lost interest when I found out they were only going to do 13 episodes a season.

The problem with Terra Nova was not necessarily the budget - which was quite large considering Television norms - but rather the flatness of its characters and its over-reliance on genre-cliches and formats established by LOST.

If it had been compelling from the get-go, with great characters and an intriguing plotline, I would have paid more interest. They should have revealed way way more in the pilot.

Just another example of the current Television showrunners favoring secrets over suspense and mystery.
