Leprechaun Remake is Happening at Lionsgate, WWE

You know, because you asked for it...

The 1993 film Leprechaun is going to be remade for a 2013 release. No writer, director or cast has been announced yet, so this project is still rather fresh.

Variety reports Lionsgate and WWE are coming together to make this happen. The two have had a pre-existing relationship; their previous horror title together was See No Evil.



The original film, directed by Mark Jones, starred Warwick Davis as the 'Leprechaun'.

The film is also known for featuring Jennifer Aniston in her early years.

Hornswoggle to Star in Leprechaun: Origins

WWE Films aims to have the Leprechaun reboot, which Variety says is being called Leprechaun: Origins, in theaters March 2013.

WWE has revealed its own "Hornswoggle", David Postl, will star as The Leprechaun.

No writer or director have been revealed for the reboot yet. Lionsgate will distribute.

Director Locked for Leprechaun Remake

According to TheWrap, director Zach Lipovsky has been tapped to direct the remake of Leprechaun. Lipovsky was a contestant on the reality TV show "On The Air", which ran for one season.

The show, which was run by Mark Burnett and Steven Spielberg, saw 16 contestants vying for a chance for a development deal with DreamWorks.

The upcoming Liongsate/WWE Studios produced film will star wrestler Hornswoggle as the villainous Leprechaun, originally made famous by actor Warwick Davis in the 1993 comedy/horror classic.
